Arachnide Chair by Studioforma
July 12th, 2013 — Design
Swiss architects Studioforma are no stranger to the furniture and product design world . They have quite a bit of furniture designs, but their new Arachnide chair took me by surprise. With its long insect-like legs, I knew it was spider-inspired before I even knew its name. Besides the spider-like silhouette, the contrast in materials—smoked oak and aluminium—were also a major inspiration in its design and achieving the desired effect

Glint Lamp by Galula Studio
July 10th, 2013 — Design
The Glint lamp is a nifty little two-part design that joins a single lighting component with an angular metal storage holder. The light, designed by Filipa Mendes and Gustavo Macedo for Galula Studio , features a cork covered socket with super strong magnets embedded in the surface that let it adhere to any iron surface, like the storage holder it comes with. The metal contraption holds your spot in your book, acts as a magazine rack, or a storage space for your files. The magnets allow you to adjust the light in any direction you want on the metal surface to aid your reading or whatever your lighting needs are.

The Craft of Thread Wrapping by Anton Alvarez
July 9th, 2013 — Design
Swedish-Chilean designer, who happens to be based in London and Stockholm, Anton Alvarez has developed a line, and technique, that wraps various materials with thread to form objects. The line of furniture consists of wood components that are joined together with only a glue-coated thread, no nails or screws. Along the way he built the Thread Wrapping Machine , which helps produce the line while still relying on a hands-on technique that results in this new craft, the Craft of Thread Wrapping . Using this building method on materials like wood, plastic, or steel, new objects can be formed and constructed, all without relying on traditional joinery methods
