Hacker Help: Problems with holes

Description: We have three homes with a lot of Ikea furniture. But, how can you be proud of your kitchen or about your Billy when they’re showing off plenty of small holes, correctly made for you to choose where to put your shelves? How can I solve this real big issue when Ikea is having hole plugs, or hole covers, or hole caps, only in black? My billys are the birch ones, and the Faktum only comes in white. any of you having any hack-idea

Ikea Floating Headboard from Kitchen cover panels

Materials: Perfekt Abstrakt High gloss grey panels, wood framing Description: I made this headboard from Ikea’s high gloss kitchen panels. The panels come in 24×80″ so I used 2 horizontally with one above the other so as to not have to cut and re-edgeband them. I ripped four 1″ thick and 30″ long vertical strips from 2×4’s to connect the 2 panels together and spaced them evenly along the back. I then ripped longways two 2×4’s with my table saw blade on a 30 degree angle and trimmed them to 60″ long. I mounted one half of each 2×4 to the wall and the other half on the top and bottom backside of the headboard

Childhood Nightstand Goes Mid-Century

Materials: Ikea nightstand (Rast), saw, Watco Danish Oil, 4 table legs, 4 angled top plates with screws, furniture oil, sand paper, tape measure, pencil, screw driver Description: This little Ikea nightstand has been in our family for 30 years and has been through three kids. By the time it got to me it was covered in water stains, chipped veneer and scribbles. But the bones of it were perfect – a little drawer to hide away ugly things like cellphone chargers and ample room for books, clocks, lamps and knick-knacks. This project took about a week and is completely doable in a small apartment. They don't sell this exact nightstand anymore but you can get the same effect using the Ikea Rast Nightstand , minus the drawer

Soap dish from kitchen skimmer

Materials: Ikea (name?) kitchen skimmer Description: We have 2 round vessel sinks in our master bath. Small Ikea bowls mimicking the shape of the vessels held our soaps next to the sinks. Every time we reached with wet hands for the soap or return it to the dish, soapy water splashed on the counter, very messy. What we needed was an in-sink soap dish! We looked at Ikea’s Lillangen line of bathroom furniture but none of their in-sink accessories would fit our rounded vessel sinks

Kitty cat’s Clawpole

Materials: Antonius shelf, Ekby Stödis brackets, Hessum doormat, screws, metallic L-brackets, white paint, pole, jute rope, floor protectors, small nails Description: Since I think most cat-clawing furniture are both really expensive and ugly I decided to make my own. 1.Take the Antonius shelf and cut it in three or how many “floors” you want for your cat. I measured two shelves after about half of the doormat and let the last piece become the bottom plate

The table clock

Materials: Ikea Bravur wall clock, small old round table, black lacquer, adhesive, saw, brush Description: I became fascinated with the “DIY” madness. For a long time I wasn’t interested in the Do It Yourself attitude, I never thought something could be done using old furniture or knick-knacks. I was only interested in the things of design

Wall cubes : Inspired by wall boxes she saw at a high end furniture store, Jenni hacks her own version. Aren’t those chairs cute? Wallpaper art : I still drool whenever I see these wallpapers by Swedish designer Hanna Werning. So beautiful, framing them is just the thing to do. Media storage with sliding doors : This one is a classic, which led to many more versions of the Lack sliding door media unit.
