Materials: 2.5 IKEA Rast, gloss paint, various brackets, legs and handles furniture, stainless steel sheet Description: I really like a lot of the vintage industrial furniture that appears to be around at the moment, however it's very expensive AND seems to be a lot larger than will fit in my small flat. New headboard for old

Materials: old Ikea bed frame, single ikea duvet, Ikea Malin Vag fabric, plywood, staple gun, velcro cable ties Description: Did you know that 1 in 10 Europeans were conceived on an Ikea bed? Our little scamp is among that flat-packed-furniture-boot-knockin 10% so even though our bed had it’s fair share of battle scars & we really wanted a funky new frame, I decided to see what creative improvement I could come up with for sentimental reasons – & saved a few hundred euros in the process! As the old Ikea frame was still in excellent, no-squeaking, sturdy-enough-to-bounce-on condition I realized that all that was needed to add some more groove to our bedroom was a new head & foot board. Here’s the super simple penny pinching how-to

Turn a Chest of Drawers into a Vanity Unit

Materials: “RAST”, wood placemat, meter tape, pencil, jigsaw, some scissors and a big mug Description: I was looking for a vanity unit but at first everything was too deep and cost too much money. As RAST height and depth (70×62 cm) and price (29 € ) were quite what I was looking for I decided to hack it. To do this you’ll have to buy a RAST chest of drawers and a wooden placemat and you’ll need to use a precision saw, a jigsaw would be a lot better tho. 1: Build your RAST without putting the back side, and without the drawers inside (built them separately). Invert A with B

Recycle Bin Dresser

Materials: RETUR Recycling bins, Lack Shelf, Wall Anchors, Screws, Cordless Drill, Table or Circular Saw, Spray Paint Description: I soooooo hate folding clothes. I used to have two piles of clothes on the floor, one for dirty clothes and one for clean. I wanted to create something that didn’t take up any valuable floor space. While visiting IKEA I had an inspiration. Using the two different sizes of IKEA Recycle Bins ( this and this ) and a Lack Shelf I was able to come up with a nice contemporary looking wall dresser.

Embellished Lack Side Table

Materials: Lack Side Table, corbels, nailhead trim, sand paper, wood filler and glue, spray paint, metallic paint Description: With less than $45 and a little elbow grease, I transformed my $10 table that was destined for the dumpster into one of my new favorite pieces of furniture. I started out by sanding down the “wood”. The surface is actually a very thin veneer so it doesn’t take much but does need to be thoroughly sanded. After whipping off all the excess dust, I flipped the table over and glued the corbels to the inside of each leg. Be sure to let them dry COMPLETELY before the next step.

Ikea Rast Turned Campaign Chest

Materials: Ikea Rast 3 Drawer Chest, Behr High Gloss Paint in Sugar Plum, 3 Campaign Style Drawer Pulls, 3 Packages of 2″ Brass Flat Corners, Paint Brush, Tube of Elmer’s Wood Filler Max, Sanding Sponge, Drill Description: I love campaign furniture but the antique pieces are so hard to come by! I decided to hack the Ikea Rast, giving it the campaign style with a modern, bright-colored twist! Follow the steps below to make your own. Step One: Assemble Rast chest according to Ikea’s instructions (do not install drawer pull knobs, you won’t be using them) Step Two: Fill in the pre-drilled holes (on the drawers) with wood filler. Once filler dries, sand it down so it’s nice and smooth Step Three: Paint the entire chest (I had to use 3 coats) and let it dry completely Step Four: Install corner brackets using drill (one on each corner of each drawer) Step Five: Install drawer pulls using drill (you will have to drill new holes with your 1/4″ bit) See more of the Rast campaign chest . ~ Louisa, Madison, AL
