Materials: Expedit Shelf (1×5), some wood and plastic milk-glass Description: I’ve build a custom IKEA Expedit TV Rack. For perfect fit of my electronic components. I’ve modified the shelf with custom board arrangement. The wall mounts of the Expedit were not strong enough to hold it at the wall. But a wooden piece which I painted white would hold it from the bottom side

Materials: Vika Amon top, Utby base, Ekby Jarpen shelf, Capita legs Description: I too have joined the standing desk movement and my back has never felt better. My first attempt was to construct my own desk, inspired by several I had seen online. I made a frame out of pipe segments. It was thin, but strong, and looked really cool… except for the top.

Materials: PAX wardrobe , LYNGDAL doors, wood trim, mitre saw, table saw, chop saw, nails, screws Description: After looking at PAX wardrobes and also at several nice hacks here , we decided to remove our 1950s built in closet and replace it with a set of PAX wardrobes. Our closet measured 58″ across, so two 29 1/2″ wardrobe pieces would be close. We decided to maximize the closet so we chose the taller wardrobes. To make these fit, we had to enlarge the opening of the original closet by cutting up several inches, and also taking the plaster off the left side of the closet.

Materials: Ikea Ivar Chair Description: Our Ikea hack could quite possibly be the largest Ikea hack ever! This summer we will be constructing a 1000 square foot pavilion made of 400 Ikea Ivar chairs arrayed and stacked in a 3-dimensional sine wave surface rising above the ground in Freedom Park, Atlanta Georgia. It’s public art, but also usable in that people can actually sit on it to socialize and spend time in the park sitting in the chairs. The design is very particular to the Ikea Ivar chair because the slightly bent angle of the seatback creates a special texture to the sculpture

Materials: Lack end tables and Lack shelves Description: We wanted to create an entertainment center look without purchasing the huge piece of furniture. Inspired by this IKEA Hackers post we decided to pick up a bunch of Lack tables and attach the tops to our brick wall. The black brown color already matched our IKEA media center and leaving space in between each row left room for a couple Lack shelves (also in black-brown) that we are still brainstorming arrangements for! Materials: Lack Coffee table (birch effect), stain, paint in different colors, clear paint, sand paper Description: Our Lack table didn’t match the rest of our furniture anymore, so I looked for an idea to fit in. First I sanded the thin layer of clear paint from the table, hoping to find at least a little bit of something what is called wood, plywood or similar.

Materials: Malm Bed Base Description: This hack begins with a king-size Malm bed base that we no longer had any use for. Rather than get rid of it I had an idea that the headboard and base were nice-enough looking pieces of wood to be reused and, given that our TV was sitting on a small, worn out stand, I thought I’d have a go at making a TV unit/sideboard/thing.
