Wire Side Table by Iacoli & McAllister

One of my personal favorites from ICFF 2013 was a table that I quickly walked by and snapped a photo of on my way to see something else. With this simple table made of powder-coated steel , Iacoli & McAllister have yet again made me go back and take a second look.

Citybook Modular Bookcase by MR.LESS & MRS.MORE

Antonella Di Luca , a young designer from Bologna, Italy who previously worked with at Iosa Ghini Design Studio decided to begin a new design practice with Ubaldo Righi called  MR.LESS & MRS.MORE . Focused on tableware and home decor, they presented a product during Milan Design Week at Ventura Lambrate called Citybook . Inspired by a previous popular product,  Housebook , they took that house form and created a modular unit that can be configured just about any way you’d like, creating tons of bookcase variations that are an attractive alternative to the traditional square and rectangle shapes. Different bases can also be purchased and the house units come in white or gray sheet iron

Friday Five with Sebastian Errazuriz

Chilean born, New York based Sebastian Errazuriz is a self-proclaimed obsessive workaholic who walks a fine line between both art and design, dabbling in both disciplines and doing both with equal verve. Leaving Chile, he headed to New York University where he received his Master’s in Fine Arts and later went on to become the second living South American designer (at age 28!) to have work auctioned at Sotheby’s Important Twentieth Century Design. Recently, he began prepping for his very first museum solo exhibition happening in 2014 at the Carnegie Museum of Art. Let’s see what keeps this young artist/designer inspired in this week’s Friday Five . Photo © White Pine Pictures 1.

Kaari Table by Juhani Horelli

Kaari in Finnish means “arc” and clearly it’s the perfect name for this table by Juhani Horelli . Initially inspired by the landscape of bridges, the form seemed to reveal itself through the Finnish and Scandinavian tradition of mold pressing veneer. Horelli uses traditional craft in a modern way to create new forms for contemporary living. Polished with a lacquer finish, it’s also available in walnut, wenge and stripy birch plywood.

“Squishy” Chairs by New Colony Furniture

“Squishy” is the best way that I can describe these chairs by Annie Evelyn of Brooklyn-based company New Colony Furniture . We first stumbled on one at WantedDesign in the RISD Alumni exhibition and then even more on the ICFF floor. The chairs look hard and uncomfortable, but the seats are designed to be like upholstery and seem to form to your body upon touch. You’d think these were hard, but in fact, they squish right down when you put your hand on them, just like a bouncy cushion. The Scotty chair is a collaboration with Scott Albrecht .
