Diamonds is a series of hanging pendants designed by Sylvie Meuffels for JSPR that cross industrial with a bit of classy elegance. Much like the stones they’re named after, these eye-catching lights will shine from the ceiling they hang from. There are three geometric, diamond-shaped variations to choose from and the metal cage frames are made from powder-coated steel in either black or gold. Photos by Lisa Klappe.

Who says modern can’t have a sense of humor or a dash of whimsy? Certainly not Bill Playso, the head of the Australian lifestyle brand Playso . He designed the Koo Koo mailbox in a stylized shape of a bird to bring some fun to something that’s normally relegated to simply functional. Working with industrial designer Justin Hutchinson, the avian themed mail holder came to life, making it designed and manufactured in their homeland of Australia. I love how the wing is open to hold magazines and larger mail.

Kobe Design University’s design collective Design Soil presented a collection of new works in Milan called “Lagrangian Point”. The overarching theme of the collection comes from a 1772 essay by Joseph Louis Lagrange called “Essay on the Three-Body Problem.” From the designers: In 1772, in the “Essay on the Three-Body Problem,” Joseph Louis Lagrange indicated the Lagrangian Point, a point exists in the space between the revolving two bodies that gravity and centrifugal force are balanced. A material put on this point keeps balancing and revolving without changing a relative position. A calm stability is found in throughout the various forces crossing.

HUXHUX Design is a young design studio with a growing body of work that explores minimal geometric furniture that is both sculptural and functional. Run by Harvard Architecture school grad and Parsons professor Justin Huxol, HUXHUX takes inspiration from the sculptural works of Tony Smith & Donal Judd, paying homage to reductive form making and repetitive geometries from his time working for Rem Koolhaas at OMA-Rotterdam. Nugget Hollow is an end table with a sculptural, geometric shape and a pop of color and light on the inside.

Did you have a chance to go see the Great Gatsby this weekend? I didn’t, but am hoping to go sometime this week.
The elaborate costumes and decor are both things I don’t want to miss. Plus, the story is quite enchanting! And I did have a giant crush on Leo back in his Titanic days, so seeing him as Gatsby won’t be so bad either!
Can you imagine living in this era? It would be so fun to dress up like that – we’re so casual these days!
If you saw Great Gatsby, what did you think??

First presented in Milan , these six works by Paris-based American designer Phillip Euell will make their way to Clerkenwell at the end of May. The end result of a process of abstraction, rule-making, re-combination, and re-edification, banal objects of domestic life are reconstituted by way of an evolutionary framework, arriving new and whole on the design landscape.

Berlin-based designer Joa Herrenknecht launched a new geometric lighting series called KOGI at the curated DMY Berlin Trails exhibition at this year’s Ventura Lambrate . The abstract lighting sculptures are constructed out of pieces of lightweight Tyvek that are cut into triangles and assembled into their hanging forms. Light beams through the material creating warm textures of light and is even available in various colors to add a unique, almost watercolor look.

Designer Arik Levy takes lighting to a whole new level with his latest for Vibia called WIREFLOW. Composed of thin rods, the geometrical sculptures appear to be almost like two dimensional line drawings. Take a step to the left or right and you see that some are even three dimensional forms suspended in the air holding LED lights

Amy Sia is an Australian born fashion designer who moved to London two years ago to pursue a career in textile print design. Her dreamy, painterly artwork combined with her signature bold use of color has quickly caught the attention of many major design magazines, as well as Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters. We’re seriously enamored with her pillows, and created palettes with Colourlovers for three of them for this week’s CMYLK .
