Folditure , founded by Alexander Gendell, set out to create a line of folding designs that were beautifully designed, while also sturdy and comfortable, and, most importantly, would practically disappear when folded up. The Leaf chair is the world’s thinnest folding dining height chair and it folds flat to less than 3/4 of an inch thick. The one above is limited edition version and it’s part of the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Museum. Last year we wrote about the Leaf chair and it never quite left our minds. Luckily, for this month’s Deconstruction , they’re taking us behind the scenes to show us how it’s done.

During NYCxDesign, at WantedDesign we spotted Alexander Purcell Rodrigues’ Cartesian chairs, a collaboration with California-based innovative aluminum manufacturer Neal Feay . Named after Descartes’ Cartesian coordinate system – the foundation on which CAD software is built – the simple silhouette of Purcell Rodrigues’s chair goes from function to art form. Made of aircraft-grade aluminum with a faded anodized finish, each chair has a mathematically-generated ornamentation on its surface. Using Neal Feay’s cutting edge aluminum fabrication methodologies that uses minimal waste and unique finishing techniques, couples with generative modeling tools and algorithm-based patterns makes this chair a pretty cool and innovative piece of home decor.

Greetings, earthlings. Meet your newest visitor from another planet, the Pink Alien.
Designed by Alexander Petunin, Russian architect and designer, the Pink Alien is a modern double sofa with clean shapes and bright colors. The Pink Alien sofa is bright white with a hollow back and armrests that open to reveal a vibrant pink color that beautifully accents the white. The sloping curves of the Pink Alien combined with the modern colors qualify it as the ideal sofa for the ultra-contemporary home.
