Ottawa-based design house The Federal has crafted a stylishly modern sanctuary for your bird friends to find comfort. The Birdhouse is made of lightweight aluminum in any design lover’s favorite colors, CMY (cyan, magenta, and yellow), and is held together and strung up with a leather string.

Israeli designer Hilla Shamia uniquely joins the materials of aluminum and wood in this Wood Casting series. Using a whole tree trunk, Shamia pours molten aluminum directly onto the wood, which burns the surface and darkens the wood. The wood gets cut up lengthwise and put into a mold to form the frame and legs of the piece. Each piece is completely one-of-a-kind due to the various trees used and depending on the “leakage” of the metal throughout the wood cracks. I love the mix of natural wood and the sleek modern metal.

The Abracadabra Bench, from the Barcelona-based Lagranja Design for Metalco , is a bench that can take on many different formations based on your requirements. Each colorful component is made of either stone, painted iron, wood, or recycled aluminum and can be set up in a cross, linear, or branch-like configuration. Perfect for any public or outdoor space, the Abracadabra adapts to any setting with endless possibilities and looks. It has a unique sculptural quality and what a difference from the usual benches you spot around most cities.

Martí Guixé has designed this Free Port cabinet for Spanish company BD Barcelona . Made of MDF that includes veneer of various types of wood with different lacquer finishes, the cabinet sits on aluminum and steel legs. I love that each storage section isn’t the same, meaning you can have this cabinet perform multiple uses such as an entertainment center, bookshelf and wine bar all in one.
