Have a look at two contemporary chairs from the Peter Scherer Studio: the Loop Chair and the Aluminum Chair.
Shown above is the Loop Chair, a uniquely designed chair, upholstered in fabric and supported by a sleek metal base.
The Aluminum Chair is made from 8 mm of water-cut aluminum (did the name give it away?!). With modern loops and curves, the Aluminum Chair is available in black or white.
PSA Scherer Studio is located in Berlin, Germany.

Designed by Harry Thaler, a goldsmith studying design in London, England, the Pressed Chair is as light as a feather. In fact, this chair is so incredibly light that it can be held with just one finger! Made of a single sheet of 2.5 mm aluminum, the Pressed Chair receives its strength from the decorative indents pressed into the chair.
The minimal materials used in the Pressed Chair make it environmentally friendly; it is 100% recyclable and produces no waste throughout the manufacturing process. On Harry Thaler’s website, it is written about the Pressed Chair that the “value of design excels in the intent of creating a piece out of one single material without any joints or connectors.”
Thaler’s goldsmith background has led him from jewelry design to furniture and interior design. To see more of his work, visit his website at http://www.harrythaler.it/.

Baccarat has introduced a new lighting collection called Jallum, designed by Yann Kersalé . Jallum is a modular and rechargeable cylinder made of an upper cut crystal section with a satin finish on the top, and a lower section of anodized aluminum set in a base with a soft touch finish. Like a “light wand” Jallum can be used alone or in a grouping. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings , Interior Design , Technology | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

I absolutely love these lamps. Designed by Yann Kersale in collaboration with Baccarat (ok that explains why they are so pretty!) the Jallum Baccarat Lamps feature a glow stick light form. Perfect for illuminating your walkway or patio, each features an upper crystal cut satin top and an andonized aluminum bottom. They really look stunning, don’t they?
Its going to cost you a pretty penny though. The Jallum Baccarat Lamps are expected to be available by next month and to retail at $3250!!

The reason I find the work of Joris Laarman so interesting is that all of it is inspired by life sciences, and made using cutting edge technology. The combination is certainly intriguing, and it only takes a brief look at his work to realize how incredible it is.
Shown here is his new Leaf Table made from resin, steel, aluminum and inspired by the veins of leaves. Also pictured is the Bone Chair. Even though it is from 2006 I still think it’s worth discussing. What is interesting about this chair, besides its name, is that Laarman actually used technology from the German auto industry to produce a chair that reduces and strengthens by optimizing material allocation, weight and stability to actually require less material.
See more from Laarman here.

Burojet has taken plastic bags filled with air and created lamps out of them. Each is closed with a tie, the bottom cut out and the rim of the bottom taped with aluminum or plastic tape to shape the lamp any way you want. With the introduction of an LED light, the bags become a light fixture. ©2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook Light fixture – Facebook – Light-emitting diode – Plastic bag – Plastic
