Skim Milk: Wanmokku by Torafu Architects

Wanmokku is a minimal design created by Japan-based  Torafu Architects . The initial inspiration for the design came from an informal encounter with a Jack Russell Terrier. Through careful observation, the designers noticed that the dog would always come into close proximity to the clothes of the owner – most likely due to the reassuring scent and pleasant touch of the fabric. Torafu decided to take this interesting observation a step further by creating a furniture piece which would use the owner’s old clothes as a foundation for where a dog could play and rest. The elastic nature of the clothes forms a hammock like surface when attached to the frame.

Could You Work Here?

The space above is from the Microsoft Headquarters in Vienna, designed by Innocad Architects. While the entire space is beautiful and modern [you should definitely check it out] this particular room caught my eye.

The floor, the ceiling, the walls – they’re all lined with soft wood! Which obviously I know you can see yourself, but it is just such an interesting look. Since this is the HQ for Microsoft, I’m guessing this space is a conference room or meeting room of some sort, although it could pass for a dining room.

Assuming it is a conference room – the question is: could you work in this room? Even though I love it, I think it would make me dizzy! I think I would prefer it as a gorgeous walk-in closet – how about you??

In its 2nd year, WantedDesign was back with a multitude of designers, architects, manufacturers, students, and more for an exhibition that ran during the unofficial New York Design Week . The event is meant to bring about new relationships and to spread ideas. The Tunnel was buzzing with creative energy and brilliant design and it’s definitely an event not to be missed. Designer Todd Bracher partnered with 3M Architectural Markets to create Lightfalls , a lighting installation that utilizes the laws of physics to bounce light repeatedly from a single source

Outdoor kitchens can be transformed into amazing spaces, as shown by these images above.

Depending on the climate in which you live, these spaces can certainly get more use than an indoor kitchen! Either way, if you’re a big outdoor entertainer, I think it’s definitely worth having an abundant outdoor kitchen.

What do you think – are you a fan of outdoor kitchens or do you find them unnecessary?

Last year, furniture maker Andrew Raible and photographer Jami Saunders spent their honeymoon volunteering in a Nepali orphanage, living and working with 41 kids in Kathmandu. Made Their first initiative, The Desk Project, is focused on furniture design. Cool Chair Sighting

invasion-chair

This spacey chair is called the Invasion Chair and is the work of Jean-Jacques Jungers for MT4 Architects.  It’s not actually from space, but it is meant to explore the limits between figuration, abstraction and functionality.  The Invasion Chair comes in both a kids size and an adult size, and its chair cushion is easily changeable and comes in several color choices.
