I spotted these Reclaimed Horseshoe Chairs by Bruce White over on AHAlife a few days ago and I couldn’t stop thinking about them. Each and every piece Bruce makes is lovingly welded and sculpted by hand — from horseshoes with a history. He explains to AHAlife that he lays out all the shoes and hand selects them for each section of the chair. He also does a “fit test” to make sure the chair is comfortable. The final chair is powder-coated before it is ready for its new owner.

Reclaimed Horseshoe Chairs

Although they look like icicles, these chairs actually light on fire. Burniture, designed by Hongtao Zhou, is a collection of furniture made of white wax.
The goal of Burniture is “to burn, melt and collapse” while creating a conflicting appearance. As the chairs look like they should be cold and icy, they confuse the onlooker by burning and melting.
Designer Hongtao Zhou is originally from China, but came to the United States in 2005 and is currently residing in Wisconsin. He is an artist, designer and engineer. To view more of his works, check his website here.

Hongtao Zhou is a Wisconsin-based sculptor who has created a set of burning chairs out of wax. Call it “Burniture.” According to the artist, over time the chair will burn, melt, and collapse. The chairs have an icy appearance, but generate heat and begin to weaken as the wicks burn

Modern wicker often seems like an oxymoron to me, but every once in a while I come across a wicker piece or two worthy of hanging out on a patio with some Bertoia or butterfly chairs. I guess it’s because I am a writer, but I am fascinated with all things letters. These chairs are no exception.
The ABC Chairs are the work of Roeland Otten. And yes, there are 26 different styles – one for each letter of the alphabet. The type font has been optimized for three dimensions and of course to actually provide a seat. Fascinated – I might have to get myself an S for my office.. what do you think?
