Growing Vases is a design concept created by Nendo in collaboration with Fabio Novembre for Czech glass and lighting company Lasvit . The abstract theme was “cocoon” and Nendo was asked to create something out of glass that was fresh and new, evoking the idea of new possibilities. They playfully created an installation that utilized the metal pipes used by glassblowers, still attached tot he objects they were used to make, however they turned the pipes into flowers and branches. The glass, then, became the vases in which these flowers were held “making flowers blooming in vases into vases blooming from flowers to represent the flower bulbs that draw nutrients from plants through photosynthesis and store new life.” Photos by Daici Ano.

Sima Pashtun is an amazing rug with a 3D effect designed by Mauricio Lara and Sebastián Lara of eos méxico . Inspired by the traditional ancient rugs and made with the same 3,000-year-old Tibetan technique, this rug explores tricking the eye and confusing the mind. The project is a collaboration with Odabashian Rugs , who — like the rug — is simultaneously innovative and traditional through materials and methods. When I heard about this exciting collaboration between two of my favorite companies I couldn’t wait to spill the beans. Modern-twist , creator of unique modern tabletop textiles, and Nervous System , designers of math-meets-nature jewelry have collaborated on a new collection of trivets called Studio Trivetz. These colorful trivets not only protect your table, but they interconnect so that you can place just about any size pot or pan on top

Veuve Clicquot , is hosting an exceptional 100 square-meter bar and presenting their special collaboration with Tom Dixon — the Comet Lamp — this week during Art Stage Singapore . The Comet Lamp was designed from a simple, cardboard box transformed into a romantic, beneficent and sparkle — just like champagne — based on the universally attractive laws of geometry. The emblems of Veuve Clicquot and its five-branched star inspired Tom Dixon to reference the comet that was seen in the Champagne region of France in 1811, the year of an exceptional vintage and the first year of the “modern champagnes” that were pioneered by Veuve Clicquot. I’m a sucker for sparkly things designed by Tom Dixon. The Comet with Tom Dixon Photos courtesy of Veuve Clicquot.

The Savanna Collection is the most recent collaboration between Alvaro Uribe and Style Factory — two tables that were inspired by the African Savanna Tree. Through the division of the surfaces, the walnut tops and chrome-plated legs bring to mind the spirit of nature and poetic organic forms. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

Anne sent me over this great new collaboration between DEDON and Philippe Starck called Play (she said “I love it!”). It has started with just a stackable chair/armchair, but it sounds like more pieces will come. The chair is a combination of molded polypropylene and fiberglass frame with DEDON’s unique and signature handcrafted woven style. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook More Milk: Art Milk | Dog Milk

Applied literature takes on a whole new meaning in Ivanka Beton’s unique table design. The Applied Literature Table is collaboration between Beton and fine artist Janos Hubler. This table is made of concrete, and its design enables it to incorporate you own collection of literary masterpieces. It takes on a new look with each user, as books can be changed, added, and removed.
Applied Literature will be exhibited at Hidden Heroes in Milan. Lots of great design to see there this week! See more from Ivanka Beton here.
