Netherlands-based industrial designer Renate Vos created a series of experimental pendant lamps using an unusual combination of concrete and silicone rubber. Concrete Bin is a self-produced oval light that is a mostly concrete shade with a border of translucent silicone rubber that emits a warm glow. The Small and Big conic models are produced and distributed by Serax. Right now, Vos and Serax are also working on an extra-large conic version. Most of the time, I find myself partial to concrete items within home decor and accessories because my fiance works in the concrete industry and its fascinating to see all of the different ways it can be used.
So when I saw these Concrete Palmas Vases on Design Milk, I couldn’t resist sharing them. As stated in the initial post, these vases are made from a hand-folded origami mold which is then filled with the concrete. The paper is pulled away once the concrete is dry, making the mold a one-time use. I just can’t believe that such detail is achieved with a paper mold.
I love the sleek spikes of the design, and would store my flowers in these vases any day. What about you?

Israeli designer Shmuel Linski created an espresso machine called Espresso Solo using concrete as the primary material. He wanted to make a desirable consumer product for the kitchen from concrete to complement the other more typical uses of concrete in our kitchens such as walls or countertops. Loving the contrast between the metal parts and the raw concrete.

We have blah and boring concrete floors in our basement that are yearning for a thick coat [or two] of gorgeous glossy paint.
I’m loving the looks of these gray and white concrete floors above. Each room has a nice brightness with the choice of wall colors in combination with the gloss of the painted concrete.
I’m obviously loving this look – what about you? Would you go for glossy painted concrete floors? Matte? Or something completely different?

Bradford Teasdale works with concrete creating custom installations, mosaics, furniture and fine art. I got to see his work in person at the Architectural Digest Home Show. It’s even more exquisite when you get to touch it (which I totally did without asking and he was OK with it!) Sit outside and roast marshmallows while relaxing on the Marshmallow! Designed by Cici Chen and Lui Honfay of Cilicon Factory, the Marshmallow is a set of lightweight concrete outdoor seating. Included in the set are three pieces: a bench, 2-seater and 3-seater.
The lightweight concrete used to make the Marshmallow series is durable enough to withstand outdoor terrain, yet light enough to move and maintain. The versatile material of concrete enables color, in which a fluffy pink is used here to add to the whimsical appeal of Marshmallow. The Marshmallow is sealed with a special agent to keep maintenance low.
So, are you ready to roast some marshmallows on the Marshmallow?
