Materials: 3 FAKTUM wall cabinet with HÄRLIG doors in white (50 cm x 70 cm), 2 PERFEKT cabinet cover in birch (99 cm), IKEA STOCKHOLM BLAD fabric, cellular material (for ex. VYSSNA SLAPPNA mattress), spray glue, self-adhesive hook-and-loop tape Description: In my new apartment I needed some back rest for my NORDEN bench and also some more space for things like candles, table cloth and napkins. I couldn’t really find some piece of furniture that could fulfill my wish so I thought of working on something myself. My first thought was: FAKTUM.

Materials: Chest of drawer – TARVA – not yet in the range Description: Three weeks ago I attended an IKEA contest in which I should design a chest of drawers, which is not yet on the market. It is made … of pine wood and so I could worked on it very well. With all of our furniture in white, I decided to use a lot of color this time and to incorporate many styles: The brightness of colors from the Orient, adorable handbatiked fabrics from Bali, Dot Paintings from Australia, the Meditation of mandalas and just a little inspiration from nature. And because I love to play Papillon (it's Ludo played with Rummy Cards) with my children, I've milled this in the form of a mandala at the top of the dresser

Materials: Ikea nightstand (Rast), saw, Watco Danish Oil, 4 table legs, 4 angled top plates with screws, furniture oil, sand paper, tape measure, pencil, screw driver Description: This little Ikea nightstand has been in our family for 30 years and has been through three kids. By the time it got to me it was covered in water stains, chipped veneer and scribbles. But the bones of it were perfect – a little drawer to hide away ugly things like cellphone chargers and ample room for books, clocks, lamps and knick-knacks. This project took about a week and is completely doable in a small apartment. They don't sell this exact nightstand anymore but you can get the same effect using the Ikea Rast Nightstand , minus the drawer

Materials: Rationell Variera Pot Lid Organizer (only required item) Description: We looked at the Rationell Variera Pot Lid Organizer at IKEA and really fell in love with the steel pegs. My fiancee had been thinking about her not remembering every necklace, bracelet, set of earrings, etc that she has, so she decided it would be great if we could use those pegs to make a display for her jewelry. Since we’re always browsing the “as-is” section of the store for different items (I built a wonderful office table for two out of a headboard from there – maybe a future Ikea hack article?) we got a wonderful piece of wood there for $1 (I think it was a shelf or something like that). We went to Lowes and bought 14 screws that fit the pegs and were about 2 – 3 inches long (just make sure it goes completely through the thick part of the wood with more than enough for the pegs to grab onto on the other side and provide adequate support for whatever it is you are going to be displaying) and a drill bit that was a tad bit bigger than the screw (that way the screw will just fall into place, not actually screw into the wood)

Materials: Vika Leif trestle, 1 Nexus cabinet door from As-Is section, Stefan chair and some IKEA fabric Description: On my most recent trip to IKEA, I wanted to get a frugally-priced laptop/writing desk and chair for my bedroom. The one I was thinking about getting was the Laiva, which was only $20. It matched my existing furniture and was small enough to fit in the space I wanted to put it. Well, unfortunately it looked like it only cost $20. My next try was the Micke at $49

Materials: Lack wall shelf Description: We wanted to put up something that our cats could use to climb on and that didn’t take up any valuable horizontal real estate. Saw a pet store in our neighborhood using shelves as climbing walls for cats and looked online only to find that this is not so uncommon a practice and discovered this fab site along the way. Here is our version of a cat hack using Lack

Materials: Vika Curry leg, Ekby Statlig shelf Description: The goal was to make a pair of cheap and simple speaker stands. Vika legs are just suitable height to bring the speaker to the ear level when I’m sitting down, and in black they will match the legs of my desk. For the base plate I used an Ekby Statlig solid wood shelf in 19cm width. To put it all together I bought an 8mm threaded rod in the hardware store and a couple of nuts and washers

Materials: PERFEKT Storage System
Description: Vino anyone? I love wine, but often had no place to store several bottles (My kitchen is about 90 sq ft). I used a portion of the Perfekt storage system to create a cute little wine cabinet in my kitchen. I removed the drywall and portions of 2 X 4s in the foyer to create a niche for the shelving system. I added supports on either side for a tight fit, then added molding on the outer edges for a finished look. Now I can store up to 10 bottles at a time!
