Spin Ceramics

Spin Ceramics is a collective of designers and artisans led by artistic director, Gary Wang that creates artistic and delicately cutting-edge porcelain. The pieces are made in Jingdezhen, China’s porcelain capital, using techniques dating back to the Ming Dynasty. Jingdezhen porcelain is described as being “white as jade, thin as paper, and as sweet sounding as a chime.” Spin Ceramics can be purchased at Wanderloot . Monsieur Lamp

Spanish design brand Almerich has collaborated with Barcelona-based designers Tom Allen , Christian Vivanco and Yago Rodriguez on a new reading lamp called Monsieur. Connecting the reader, the light and the book, the designers researched the strong emotional connection between the user and the intimate experience of reading. I like that between the name of the lamp and the design, it almost looks and acts like a butler, catering to your every reading need. Made Out Portugal

It never ceases to amaze me how many awesome international design collectives there are out there to help boost the careers of young designers. I feel like they’re more popular in the UK and Europe. I get excited when I see new international design from lots of talent all in one place — this is why I blog. Thus, when I got an email from Made Out Portugal I was overjoyed. Made Out Portugal is a design platform for Portuguese designers working outside of Portugal that acts like a collective rather than a brand

Friday Five with Ana Linares

Ana Linares is a Brooklyn-based designer born in Miami and raised in Bogota, Colombia. She moved to New York to pursue her degree of Industrial Design at Pratt Institute. Ana’s designs are the result of her sensitivity to material experimentation and love for creating folding shapes inspired by organic forms in nature and origami. While developing her own designs, she has worked for the past years with recognized companies and designers such as Knoll Design, Karim Rashid and Mark Goetz. Ana’s designs have been viewed in numerous exhibitions including New York’s ICFF, 100% Design London, Brooklyn Designs and Art Basel Miami.

De Intuïtiefabriek (The Intuition Factory)

De Intuïtiefabriek (The Intuition Factory) is a collective of 4 female designers — Amba Molly , Carolina Wilcke , Eefiene Bolhuis and Eva Gevaert — who recently graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven. Collectively, they focus on tableware, and their new project, Metropolis was recently exhibited at the DMY International Design Festival Berlin. Metropolis creates a fantasy world out of tableware: vases become buildings, flowers become bridges, bowls become valleys and spoons become ladders… Photos by Ine van den Elsen . © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook
