New York-based artist and designer, Joe Doucet , collaborated with Odabashian , one of the oldest handmade rug companies in the Americas, to create the limited edition ALIGN . The Tibetan-knotted rug was created just for the recently held WantedDesign 2013 and was on display there. Most knotted rugs of this caliber are made around 2mm x 2mm grids and Doucet used this to work off of when he came up with his geometric design. The rug is woven in India and the design measures 5′ x 8′ and contains over one million, Tibetan single knots.

Nine lucky people will be able to call the limited edition Maharam Polder Sofa theirs when it’s released to the US market in the coming weeks. For this exclusive edition, only 100 of the Hella Jongerius -designed sofas for Vitra were made, each featuring six Maharam textiles in a patchwork fashion. The Polder Sofa was originally designed in 2005 and gives nod to the Dutch designer’s homeland as far as name and design go. The low profile piece, with its asymmetry and abstract nature, give way to the patchwork fields that ring true in the Dutch countryside

Axel Yberg has just completed a new line of tables called Split in his brand new collection of limited edition small lot pieces available at akke780.com . The set of tables is made from finished edge black walnut and square stock steel in a woven pattern that reminds me of a bench and also a bit like a maze. I like the playfulness here between the two materials and the modern, clean lines.

Dusty Diamonds is a collection of handmade stoneware with geometric relief patterns made by Swedish ceramicist Anna Elzer Oscarson . The limited edition pieces, like balls with lids, vases, and dishes, feature her signature faceted diamond-like surfaces that are full of dimension. Oscarson is also well known for keeping the tradition of Swedish ceramics alive. She worked closely with the Porslinsfabriken factory’s skilled ceramicists where she learned tried-and-true skills and developed the techniques you see here

I just discovered the surface designs of Spanish art and design studio TODO MUTA . They are a relatively new design company based in Seville that creates illustrative patterns and prints for wallpaper, vinyls, prints, textiles and just about anything else you can think about slapping a pattern on. They even developed a line of limited edition ceramics . I love their work because it’s fun enough for kids, especially the wall drawings, but I can see that if used in the right way, the repeating patterns work well for adult rooms, too. Mix them with fun colorful fabrics and you’ve got a more artsy look — it’s exceptionally versatile

These copper mirrors from London-based designer Michael Anastassiades are simply stunning. Copper covers a wooden frame in these geometric shapes that extend from the wall giving a far more beautiful look than your average mirror. They are minimal in design but with an edge. Each of the three styles comes in a limited edition of 10.

Timothy John has just released his new Woven Collection. The initial designs in this series were launched in 2010, as part of an experiment in hand-weaving techniques. The collection has since grown to five limited edition pieces: a traditional vase, pendant lights, a table and a clock. If you’re interested in purchasing any of these pieces please inquire through Design55

Based in Berkeley, California, Jeff Benroth Glass produces limited edition glass objects, with my favorite being his Glass Logs . The transparent glass logs are cast from a real piece of wood and each comes signed and numbered. Each log is approximately 15″ long x 4″ wide and is part of a limited edition of 50 pieces

Round and brilliant like the ball that will drop tomorrow night for New Years Eve, the Calmares I and Calmares II are unique modern light fixtures for your home.
Shown above, the Calmares I is a limited edition fixture of 15 pieces. The Calmares II, shown below, is of a larger limited edition run with 125 pieces. Both are designed by Strala, a design company owned by Tom Strala, an architect “who does not build houses, but tables, chairs and lighting.”
Both the Calmares I and the Calmares II are made from fluorescent tubes that are connected to form a spherical shape. The Calmares I is made of 73 connected tubes, while the Calmares II is made from 13. Each light is energy-efficient, as each consumes only 24 watts of energy.
Would you rather be celebrating New Years around the Calmares lamps than the ball in Times Square? To learn more about Calmares I and Calmares II, take a look at Strala’s website.
