When I think of wool felt rugs, for some reason I picture boring, flat solid-color rugs made of a simple sheet of felt, but San Francisco-based company Peace Industry has totally changed my perception. They have created a line of gorgeous rugs made of 100% lambs wool and woven using traditional methods by Turkish artisans, but with contemporary patterns.

San Francisco-based Upwell , led by designer Justin Porcano , launched its first product that aims to make your life just a little bit easier. The Walhub isn’t your average switch plate though, this one becomes a dedicated site for your essentials – keys, mail, or your umbrella – by having a spot right by your door. You generally turn your lights off when you leave so your eyes automatically go to the light switch anyway, making it the perfect location for your important items. It comes in two versions, the Hang (with two hooks) and the Keeper (with two hooks and a mail holder), and they’re also a variety of options depending on what type of light switches you have

Who said you had to have a garden or room for planters to have some greenery? The new Living Table by Habitat Horticulture solves the problem of adding greenery to your home without the need for a garden, balcony, or even wall space! Each Living Table is handmade in their San Francisco-area headquarters using 3/8 inch-thick tempered glass that can handle a 180 lb load per square foot and your choice of color, wood finish and even which plants you’d like added. Custom shapes are available on request. The Living Table is virtually maintenance free – just set a reminder about once a month for watering and it will stay green year-round. Pretty cool idea! New York City-based textiles and design company, ZAK+FOX is headed by Zak Profera, with help from his trusty Shiba Inu, Shinji. The textile collection, composed of 10 designs, is defined by an aesthetic that is warm, modern, and eclectic. His work draws influence from his early studies of conceptual art at the San Francisco Art Institute, as well as his recent international treks — from the outskirts of Istanbul in search of vintage finds, to the depths of the Black Forest for an open-air expedition. As for “Fox,” he says, “I loved the idea of a boy and his dog traversing the globe, unearthing ancient treasures.” In this week’s Friday Five , we can see where the pair finds inspiration

Industrial designer Yves Béhar is making his curatorial debut in San Francisco this July in a major design exhibition called TechnoCRAFT. Marijn van der Poll’s Do Hit Chair for Droog TechnoCRAFT, which will be on exhibit at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, will chart current movements blurring the traditional boundary between designer and consumer and look at the different ways that consumers are personalizing design in efforts to assert creativity and individuality in an age of mass-production and mass-consumerism.
