During Vienna Design Week , Rainer Mutsch showed a preview of a new outdoor furniture system for the traditional Austrian manufacturer Eternit called Dune. Dune is a modular furniture system consisting of five combinable modules: each one of them is molded out of an whole fiber cement-panel. Fiber cement is a 100% natural and fully recyclable material for full time outdoor usage. From the designer: With Dune I wanted to tell a story about the materials capabilities, the history of the company and the hand formed production method. The shape of all 5 Dune elements now allows the user to move freely on the objects and to choose an individual seating position according to his or her individual taste.

During a series of material brainstorms and try outs using rubber tubes, Judith van den Boom and Sharon Geschiere created a series of playful Knotted vases . The duo just so happened to be in China where they were able to quickly realize their designs in porcelain. These fluidly-formed vases are available in three sizes and colors.

With her Inside Out project, a humorous take on the foyer (or vestibule) -– a space too often neglected -– designer Anne Thomas (founder of TOMA) brings wit and clever design to the room/area you probably use the most and think about the least. The collection of objects includes a boot tray made of concrete and also made of PVC or foam, decorated with various new motifs. An umbrella stand in new colors, and, in addition to her beautiful wooden clothes-hangers, hangers in colored Plexiglas and an aluminum version. The pieces were recently exhibited in London and Brussels and is now on display in the From Quebec, in New York exhibition organized by the Quebec Delegation at Relative Space in Canada through October 22.

NLC is an LED pendant light designed for Germany company Next by Constantin Wortmann . At a first glance, NLC perplexes with its positively striking and yet strangely puzzling appearance. Its special appeal lies in the apparent conflict between the chaotic and the organic. It changes its shape with every new vantage point of the beholder. Both LED and ESL lamps can be used in its E14 fittings.

The new Duesphere Family of lamps by Note Design Studio was inspired by nature, primarily fungi found amongst green moss and large trees. The globes are hand-blown glass and soften the light just enough to set the right mood. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

The Shattered Clock is a new design from Igor Barbashin and Daria Volokhova that explores the relationship between order and chaos. The fragments of numbers unite in their hour and then gradually fall to pieces. Determine the time by searching for the least broken numbers.
