From the Greek adjective Triptixon – which breaks down to the word tri – or three – and ptysso – which means to fold, we have the term used for a three paneled piece of art (sometimes carved wood) that could be folded shut or displayed open, and are truly magnificent in structure and beauty. These fixtures are usually found in places of worship, and have inspired more modern works in terms of photographic triptych pieces and sculptures. We’re not here to talk about those inspired pieces though.
Meet Triptyque, a group of graduates from the Paris School of Architecture. Melding their classical architectural backgrounds with a unique and modern take on Brazilian Brutalism (a movement named from the French beton brut, i.e. “raw concrete”), they are taking over the world by storm. Triptyque has trailblazing the field for over a decade, creating innovative structures and interiors that question and challenge all classical architectural norms – and seem to defy them in a gratifying way. Today our Modern Crush is on this quartet. Check out the private luxury building in Rio and San Paulo – you’ll see why soon enough. I fell for them, at least three times over.

Over the weekend I had visited with some friends out of state. We were discussing the construction of new homes, and how when they received the plans for their home, it included carpet. We all agreed that carpet was a thing of the past. Sure, it could be great as a sound barrier or a cushy stopper for tiny tots who are just learning how to walk. Plus hardwood floors or tile look cleaner, and are easier to maintain. While all of these things may be going through your mind as well – I did some research and found some pretty cool carpeting ideas via Flor.com, which allows you to build your own carpet by utilizing tiles in different colors, patterns and textures. These tile like pieces of carpet can be configured into some really unique and lovely pieces. Check out these magic carpets, a whole new world of flooring …

One of my favorite elements of that some New York City apartments boast are beautifully exposed brick walls. These exposed walls are almost like the bones of the place, and give off a rustic, industrial look. I love how they can make such a statement without being too loud or bold – it’s just a really natural, muted look that brings so much life to a space. Of course – they can be added to per taste, but I like the simplicity of just a few photo frames adorning the walls, or even just the bare wall itself. Check out six different ways brick walls were done right! And, if you want to achieve a similar look – try a faux brick wall – tutorial via Pinterest.

My first book was The Cat Who Said Meow. While I do not have a particular affection for cats, I do enjoy reading very much. I have since my older sister taught me how to. I believe that reading one book a night (at a bare minimum) it so necessary, almost vital to all children. There are so many benefits to reading, it sharpens your mind, expands your vocabulary, your knowledge of diverse subjects, and is super relaxing to name a few!! So while most children/adults are quick to hop on the literature train, here are six different ways to inspire a desire to read – how you ask? By bringing the story to life…check it out! I chose my favorite six – there are so many different ways you could achieve the look of your favorite book!

Over the memorial day weekend, I hosted a BBQ, as I am sure most people either hosted or attended one themselves. Any how, I woke early Saturday morning to prep the backyard for my ten plus guests. While setting up with the outdoor chairs we have, and folding tables, I realized that we were severely lacking in the aesthetics department. So, of course I took to pinterest. Here are six different ways to spruce up your summer shin dig – DIY style. Enjoy!
1. String Lights – How gorgeous these are! They’re inviting and warm up the atmosphere, adding a magical touch to any summer night.
2. Outdoor Storage Cabinet - Use an old cabinet, strip it down and paint it, add some funky wallpaper and add a all weather sealant. Store garden tools, swimming towels, candles, etc away safely and in style.
3. Outdoor Plastic Chairs Revamped – Cover areas of your old plastic chairs with tape, and pick a fun color and spray away. I like the horizontal stripes, and would probably go for a nautical style with navy and white stripes but the brighter the better!
4. Tire Coffee Table - Love these colors! Perfect example of upcycling. Alternatives to the tires could be a ice tub, great for storage!!
5. Tent - This is really detailed, but you could try simpler versions. Great for reading, relaxing, and resting.
6. Pallet Tiki Bar – This is a feat for the ambitious, but worth the results! Add lights for the finishing touch!

Recently, I made some room in one of the smaller rooms in my home. This room was previously used as an office, a closet, a spare bedroom, a craft room, a mini library…and the list goes on. More recently, we have been hosting a number of family friends. So, the room is going to serve as a guest bedroom again. While we absolutely need to utilize this room for guests, it also needs to retain some of the space that we used it for previously. So what has to go?
NOTHING. Here are six different lovely lofts that will serve to maximize the usage of your guest room!
1. The computer desk, media shelves and trundle/additional loft bed make this perfect for a multi functional space!
2. Check out those stairs – they are actually filing cabinets! Closet and storage space as well as trendy ombre doors serve to make this chic loft space perfect for you and your guests.
3. This loft bed has a cozy little nook underneath that’s enclosed for privacy. Great closet space here as well!
4. This kid’s loft space is too cute. The modern classic furniture, fake grass and work/play space are perfect for your little ones or grand kids!
5. The deluxe loft – this has it all! Closet space, a book shelf, a seating area. It’s pretty much everything you need in and under one piece of furniture.
6. Very cool closed off space, great for kids or adults. this was made with a regular loft bed, and then transformed with DIY cut out panels. Good for privacy, safety, and fun!

I am a self proclaimed foodie. One wouldn’t think so as I really do not eat that much, but when I eat, I EAT. When I’m at work, I’m thinking about dinner. When I’m having dinner, I’m thinking about breakfast. Sometimes I’m coming up with new recipes, other times I’m mimicking chain restaurant’s secret recipes (I have a guilty pleasure for cheddar bay biscuits). I have been like this for as long as I could remember. When I was younger, it was tipped more to the chocolate/candy/dessert/sweet end of the see-saw that is my diet, now it’s more food. When I was a kid though, sweets were my passion. I always wanted a room that was decorated like the candy land board game – which was naturally my favorite game. Unfortunately my sister, with whom I shared a room with at the time, didn’t share my enthusiasm for sweets so I was SOL. One always could dream, and I did. I took a trip down memory lane today and found these really unique, food themed rooms, some popping up in hotels around the country!! Dreams do come true!! Dig in!! =)

If you’re a spring bride who had a shower in April – you’re probably anticipating the big day within the next couple of weeks during the beautiful month of May! Flowers are an essential part of the big event – and you more than likely have your floral arrangements picked, and ready to go for the big day. While I know that tons of preparation goes into wedding planning, I wanted to offer a few last minute ideas to help spruce up your spring bouquet! These ideas will really add something special to your already special day. Check out six different ways to put a twist on your May flowers!
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrow, Something Blue & Sixpence in her shoe
I love the idea of brooches mixed into floral bouquets. I think that sometimes the idea of incorporating this tradition into your attire is overwhelming. I think that it’s a great idea to compress this into one grand arrangement, using the concept of the brooch bouquet. What do you think? Check out the ideas below!
Old – ask one your of your relatives for a article of clothing that they wouldn’t mind donating a swatch of, this can be a wedding veil, or even a tie. Have it made into a wrap for the bouquet.
New – The flowers of course will be new, but let’s add something to it. What could be more new than the greatest symbol of your union? Your rings but of course, tie them to the bouquet for a unique twist!
Borrowed-brooches old, new, mix it up! your mother, aunts, and grandmothers might have some really interesting vintage pieces, and your bridal party could contribute one of their choice as well for a modern mix!
Blue – If your arrangement is blue, you’re one step ahead of the game! If not, you can include a small blue flower, brooch if it matches, or ribbon. If you want to go for something more discreet – pin a blue charm to the bouquet. For example, in Greek tradition we use the “mati” or evil eye charm for good luck. This is a great addition to a bouquet!
Now all you need is the sixpence and your shoe – or in your Brooch bouquet!

Today we tip our hats to the Queen Elizabeth II in honor of her 89th birthday. She is iconic not only because she is one of the longest reigning monarchs in British History, but she has also long contributed to the word of style and design through her wardrobe. Here are some fun facts about Her Royal Highness’s style:
1. She always wears pearls- rarely ever wears diamonds, unless required by tradition (i.e., tiaras, necklaces, etc).
2. Don’t let the original coronation photograph from 1953 fool you! HRH is anything but black and white, as you could see by her “style rainbow” spanning throughout the course several decades (below). She loves color!
3. Headgear is a must! These include but are not limited to; hats (over 5,000 and counting), scarves, floral turbans, and yes, of course – the occasional tiara.
4. She serves as a style icon for English fashion model, singer and actress Agyness Deyn.
5. She is also the muse responsible for Dolce & Gabbana’s 2008 line which featured argyles, knits, plaid tweeds and kilts.
6. The Queen has been known to reuse and recycle fabrics from her mother, as well as her gowns used from years ago to create new pieces for her wardrobe. She even saved ration cards to purchase the fabric needed to make her wedding gown!
There you have it, smart, savvy and stylish for 89 years! All Hail The Queen!

So, when I was a little girl, my grandmother used to teach my sisters and I how to crochet. She crocheted everything – blankets, doilies, and some quite embarrassing sweaters. It was definitely a fun past time for us, but after a while we did get bored with it, (there are only a certain amount of doilies on can have) but it was something definitely worth learning -as is anything really. While crotchet wasn’t so fashion forward back then, it’s surprisingly coming back – and in ways I had never expected. This spring has introduced some really different ways of incorporating crochet into your style. Check out crochet in a new way…I’m actually liking it! I trust you will too, which is why I’m including a super helpful link to Crochet For Beginners.
