Back in 2007, I discovered Grapple , a really cool coatrack concept by Ryan Frank. I don’t know what happened to Grapple, but I was just informed that it’s back and better than ever. Collaborating with TAPEgear , Ryan has created a new hanging system for coats, hats, bags and such inspired by old, industrial crane hooks that’s a sustainable version of his earlier design.

New York-based artist and designer, Joe Doucet , collaborated with Odabashian , one of the oldest handmade rug companies in the Americas, to create the limited edition ALIGN . The Tibetan-knotted rug was created just for the recently held WantedDesign 2013 and was on display there. Most knotted rugs of this caliber are made around 2mm x 2mm grids and Doucet used this to work off of when he came up with his geometric design. The rug is woven in India and the design measures 5′ x 8′ and contains over one million, Tibetan single knots.

When I think of wool felt rugs, for some reason I picture boring, flat solid-color rugs made of a simple sheet of felt, but San Francisco-based company Peace Industry has totally changed my perception. They have created a line of gorgeous rugs made of 100% lambs wool and woven using traditional methods by Turkish artisans, but with contemporary patterns.

French designer Philippe Starck talks about his new interactive designs for Flos that incorporate a bit of technology and some whimsy. The D’E-Light and Bibliotheque Nationale are a table and floor lamp that incorporate charging technology, and Chapeau is a new old-time movie-inspired design where your own hat becomes the shade. We first fell in love with Scott Daniel Design’s work when we spotted his Cmesh pendant lighting and he’s expanded the Cmesh line to include more table lamps, stools and wall tiles. This Brooklyn-based studio headed by artist Scott Daniel Strickstein is definitely one to watch. He creates beautiful porcelain designs by placing ceramic over top of mesh, which he calls Cmesh, that can be draped and manipulated until it hardens.

I bought a huge thing of basil at the grocery store that I was supposed to plant, but being that it was raining cats and dogs outside, I decided that I was going to use it all up. Rather than making the standard batch of pesto with it, I wanted to try something new. Since I was making steak last night, chimichurri sauce was the first thing that came to mind. I had never heard of chimichurri being made with basil, but I thought let me Google it and sure enough, I found what I was looking for!
I used a little bit less garlic than this recipe from Sarah’s Cucina Bella, but other than that I stuck to it and it was the perfect accent to our steak. A great summer sauce that I definitely recommend putting on your recipe radar!

Leave it to design genius Philippe Starck to create a lounge system that’s built for not only comfort, but staying connected as well. Italian furniture manufacturer Cassina had asked him to design a sofa many years before but he always saw the sofa as “obsolete.” Now, he sees them as a necessity for the changing world where leisure time is just as important as work, especially for those with more flexibility between the office and home.
