Happy Frday!!!

Do you have any exciting plans this weekend? I’m traveling back home after an exotic island vacation. From the looks of it, it seems that ill be heading home to tropical storm Andrea – whoo hoo!

My island getaway has presented me with an amazingly comfortable bed with a romantic canopy, similar to the bed shown in the space above. So enticing and flowy, this looks like it would be quite easy to recreate. Assuming you have the right bed with the tall posts – just add some white curtains and the island vibe is yours all year, even if hut surroundings don’t match the crystal blue waters! I may need to redo my bedroom to recreate the memories of my trip forever!

What do you think about this space? Are there any other aspects of it that speak to you?

Product Pick: Step

Toss out the old dingy step ladder that’s been passed down from your grandparent’s grandparents and replace it with the fabulously stylish Step, this week’s Product Pick. Of if you weren’t lucky enough to inherit one of those and use a flimsy IKEA stool to reach high places, the Step is far more sturdy and appealing.

Designed by Iacoli & McAllister, the Step is made from a matte black powder-coated frame with brass hinges. The steps are made from oak with a pink wash, giving it a sweet, almost feminine touch.

Unfortunately, Step is not currently in production, but hopefully it will be in the near future. At $1250 each, Step is not necessarily an item you would need for the home, unless you are an avid modern design aficionado, but I could justify seeing it in a modern workshop of some sort – or even a contemporary library with tall shelves.

Where do you see Step?

Jet Lag

I’m feeling a bit jet lagged after traveling to the beautiful island of Bora Bora last week. Whenever I travel to the UK, which is five hours ahead, I never feel as sluggish and unmotivated as I have after my return from this trip – which was 6 hours behind. They say you need a day for each hour to recover, but I’m hoping it won’t take me the full six days!

Perhaps my tiredness and lack of ambition is coming from the fact that I left such an unbelievably gorgeous place. We stayed in one of the bungalows over the water and the scenery was more breathtaking as each day passed. If you’re a Kardashian follower, you may have seen the episodes where the family traveled to Bora Bora, which took place at the same resort that we stayed in.

Although the food could have been a bit more fabulous, it didn’t even matter because we were surrounded by the most gorgeous natural sites, including that crystal blue water. Have you ever been to any of the French Polynesian islands? The skies were perfect, the mountains and palm trees gorgeous and the people were extremely friendly.

The only problem is leaving! How do you recover from jet lag when you return from traveling? Is there any way to snap yourself out of the sluggishness?

How Folditure Makes Its Leaf Chair

Folditure , founded by Alexander Gendell, set out to create a line of folding designs that were beautifully designed, while also sturdy and comfortable, and, most importantly, would practically disappear when folded up. The Leaf chair is the world’s thinnest folding dining height chair and it folds flat to less than 3/4 of an inch thick. The one above is limited edition version and it’s part of the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Museum. Last year we wrote about the Leaf chair and it never quite left our minds. Luckily, for this month’s Deconstruction , they’re taking us behind the scenes to show us how it’s done.

Wire Side Table by Iacoli & McAllister

One of my personal favorites from ICFF 2013 was a table that I quickly walked by and snapped a photo of on my way to see something else. With this simple table made of powder-coated steel , Iacoli & McAllister have yet again made me go back and take a second look.

Friday Five with Sebastian Errazuriz

Chilean born, New York based Sebastian Errazuriz is a self-proclaimed obsessive workaholic who walks a fine line between both art and design, dabbling in both disciplines and doing both with equal verve. Leaving Chile, he headed to New York University where he received his Master’s in Fine Arts and later went on to become the second living South American designer (at age 28!) to have work auctioned at Sotheby’s Important Twentieth Century Design. Recently, he began prepping for his very first museum solo exhibition happening in 2014 at the Carnegie Museum of Art. Let’s see what keeps this young artist/designer inspired in this week’s Friday Five . Photo © White Pine Pictures 1.
