Get Comfy on the Floor: A-Lounge by Assembly

A-Lounge is a design I didn’t think I needed until I saw it. I used to love to sit on the floor when I was younger, but now, it’s just harder to get comfortable.

Using Paint Palettes To Create Artwork-Inspired Furniture

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to share this post with you. I love finding new little tricks and programs that help ease through the creative process, and Sherwin-Williams’ Chip It!  is one of them. Lately I’ve been looking to inject a little color into my home, but wasn’t sure in what direction I should go. I knew I wanted to paint this dark, weighty bookcase to lighten up a drab corner of my house – it’s a nice piece, but not helping my situation. From there, I needed a little help.

Pretty Purples

As a kid, I would have died for anything purple. It was my absolute favorite. All I wanted when I started driving was a “shiny purple” Dodge Neon. By the time I got my license, I was cheating on purple with pink.

But lately, I’m turning back to my old trusted friend purple and taking note of it’s effect on modern home decor.

My personal favorite way to see purple is when its a plush bright purple that gives a pop to the room, as in the first image above. There are so many moods to purple, from dark to light and all that falls in between. It works just as well as an accent color as it does as the dominant color in a room. Maybe I’ll have to start cheating on my beloved pinks and turn back to purple….

What are your thoughts on purple in home decor?

Product Pick: Juicy

If there was ever a piece of furniture that could get you in the mood for summer fun, it would be Juicy. Usually it’s a tropical smell or drink or food or piece of clothing, but today it’s Juicy.

Designed by Angelo Tomaiuolo Design, the product description states that “JUICY is a comfortable stackable colourful chair inspired by the freshly squeezing of fruit juice. It’s conceived in a great range of colours and finishing versions, gloss bicoloured recyclable polycarbonate, transparent coloured and mat, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.”

The model with the white exterior and orange interior reminds me of a creamsicle. I can just see myself lounging in one of these bright modern chairs by the pool sipping on a tropical and fruity drink of the same color scheme.

Can’t you see it? What do you think of these awesome chairs?

Nugget Hollow Charitable Design by HUXHUX Design

HUXHUX Design is a young design studio with a growing body of work that explores minimal geometric furniture that is both sculptural and functional. Run by Harvard Architecture school grad and Parsons professor Justin Huxol, HUXHUX takes inspiration from the sculptural works of Tony Smith & Donal Judd, paying homage to reductive form making and repetitive geometries from his time working for Rem Koolhaas at OMA-Rotterdam. Nugget Hollow is an end table with a sculptural, geometric shape and a pop of color and light on the inside.

Gatsby

Did you have a chance to go see the Great Gatsby this weekend? I didn’t, but am hoping to go sometime this week.

The elaborate costumes and decor are both things I don’t want to miss. Plus, the story is quite enchanting! And I did have a giant crush on Leo back in his Titanic days, so seeing him as Gatsby won’t be so bad either!

Can you imagine living in this era? It would be so fun to dress up like that – we’re so casual these days!

If you saw Great Gatsby, what did you think??

Colorful Cabinets: Would You Rather?

If you were redoing your kitchen in a colorful theme, which of these two looks would you rather? One bright solid color or two tones – one bright, one darker?

For me, I don’t love two-tone, so this would be a no-brainer. The bright turquoise with the dark floors is a classy way of using color, in my opinion.

What are your thoughts on these kitchens? Which look would you rather?
