STACT: A Modular Wine Wall
March 25th, 2013 — Design
I love how wine collections grow organically as we pick up bottles from time to time, but the problem lies in where to store them. You gather more than three or four on your counter and you’re starting to look like a messy lush. Luckily STACT has us covered, or at least our walls covered. The modular wall units are a modern and affordable solution to store your wine to avoid cluttering up your kitchen counters.

Get Out! Dansk Collection for Gloster
March 25th, 2013 — Design
Dansk is a three-piece collection of outdoor furniture designed by Povl Eskildsen and Phillip Behrens for Gloster . With a nod to 50′s Danish design, the set will give you a bit of a vintage classic feel mixed with modern, for a clean, simple look. Combining warm wood and classic white, the lounge chair, coffee table, and side table make for the perfect minimal set for any patio. The pieces all feature tapered teak legs that support the white acrylic stone of the tables and the waterproof faux leather upholstered seat of the chair

Mosaic Chair 02 by BRC Designs
March 25th, 2013 — Design
Designer Benjamin Rollins Caldwell, of BRC Designs , is known for creating furniture in unusual materials and I’d say stained glass fits in that category. Mosaic Chair 02 references mid-century design with its low, angular frame, a frame that looks like a stained glass window. Inspired by “the abstract nature of stained glass windows,” the faceted chair is made up of half inch frosted tempered glass that is inset into a black, auto paint-covered steel frame. The goose down cushions are covered in lamb shearling that’s dyed red. The hard angles of the frame are balanced out with the softness of the cushions, making this one functional piece of art.

Minimal Waste + Table by Fraaiheid
March 24th, 2013 — Design
New Dutch design brand Fraaiheid (Dutch for “beauty”) takes a single sheet of laminated plywood and turns it into a sustainably produced table with cross-shaped joints. Using a CNC milling machine, the + Table ‘s parts are cut with precision out of one sheet, making for minimal waste. The name of the table comes from the cross-shaped joints that are made when the parts come together. The +, or cross-shaped joints, make assembly easy – you can put the tables together in minutes! +/- table They use a high quality birch plywood with a hard top layer of white or anthracite grey HPL (High Pressure Laminate). Other colors are available upon request.

Interview with Sjoerd Vroonland
March 23rd, 2013 — Design
I was lucky enough to meet and interview Sjoerd Vroonland while I was in Amsterdam recently. He is Moooi ‘s youngest designer and the man behind the Extension Chair . Could you start by telling me a bit about the Extension Chair? I transformed chairs by looking at how people use them.

Kitchens with Barstools
March 21st, 2013 — Designer Stuff
Do you have barstools in your kitchen? I do, but they’re nothing fabulous. I was more worried about the kitchen table and chairs and beds and sofas that I really didn’t give much thought to the barstools, as long as we had a pair.
Browsing through images on Houzz and Pinterest, my two faves, I always see kitchens with fabulous barstools that tie the whole look of the kitchen together. How about those lucite barstools in the second image above? Bold and dramatic. The Bertoia wire stools are chic and modern and the tan stools are simple and traditional, with high backs and X bases that add detail to the space.
Now I’m having total barstool envy, and I’m wishing I would have chosen bold barstools in a vibrant color or textured fabric rather than the plain old wood ones I got on sale. Instead of having barstool envy, I could always add funky pillows to the ones I’ve got or repaint or refinish them for a fun weekend project. Right?
What are your take on barstools in the kitchen? Should they be bold and fabulous or simple and stylish?

Product Pick: Pineapple Side Tables
March 20th, 2013 — Designer Stuff
Happy first day of Spring. This week’s product pick doesn’t really have to do much to do with Spring, but maybe the pineapple aspect can be a segway into summer aka warmer weather? Either way, these glamorous gold tables are wonderful.
Looking at them initially, I don’t think I would associate pineapples with the design, but upon hearing the name of the tables, I understand the correlation. Really, I just love the combination of gold and marble. You don’t get much lovelier than that, as far as I’m concerned.
Designed by Pedro Sousa, the Pineapple Side Tables can be found at Ginger and Jagger of Portugal.
What do you think of these modern side tables?
