Useful Arbeitsloser (Jobless) by Sanghyeok Lee

Useful Arbeitsloser (Jobless) by Sanghyeok Lee is a series of furniture that reflects the life of its designer. The collection is focused on its joints and resembles scaffolding and construction, which, for the designer, is representative of life in a foreign country. From the designer: A scaffolding resembled a life of a designer who lives in a foreign country in a way that it is always passed by, constructed and moved away without much attention, while being a necessary element in construction sites. Useful Arbeitsloser (Jobless) is assembled pieces of furniture. The brass joints symbolize the weight of life and the act of screwing the joints is a part of a life to create comfort.

Skim Milk: Float Wall Desk by Orange22

Float Wall Desk is a minimal design created by California-based design firm  Orange22 . The founder of the company believes that well-designed objects elicit strong emotions, starting with a sensory experience at its core. He states, “That’s what interests us about design—that capacity to affect the emotions of those who experience it.” The Float Wall Desk was designed to easily mount onto any existing wall space, creating in itself a flat surface that has multi-functional utility. The desk takes up minimal space due to the slide-out tray, which can be used as both drawer to hide peripheral accessories or as a surface for the mouse and keyboard.

Product Pick: Koop Chair

While I wouldn’t mind one of these awesome Koop Chairs in my living room, the description of these chairs implies that they were created for the business environment, which is even more exciting. But technically since I work from home, I could have one of these in my living room and do my work from the comfort of the Koop Chair, right?

If I didn’t work from home, I would LOVE to work in an office with chairs such as these. They’re modern and chic and innovative for an office environment. Even if used in a lobby or a lounge area, they would provide efficient style for both clients and employees alike.

Designed by Martela and available at Wharfside, these egg shaped chairs are available in a variety of colors, so both the shell and the interior can either match or be different.

What do you think about the Koop Chair? Wouldn’t you love one of these in your office?

Rainbow Book Chair by Chen Liu

This Rainbow Book Chair designed by Chen Liu  is kinda fun. I think that it would be really cool in the kids section of a library or a school for a more playful atmosphere. This first version is made from yoga mats, but she is planning to explore other materials like felt.

On their latest piece, they partnered with Italian designer Luca Nichetto to create the Hai  lounge chair that incorporates a folding backrest that makes shipping much easier. This chair marks the first collaboration with a non-Nordic designer and it appears to be a good one

Sweden & Coffee by Raúl Arribas

Sweden & Coffee by Raúl Arribas is an experiment with two Swedish traditions: glass blowing and coffee. The coffee set is primarily made of glass, blown by Reino Björk . I love the copper, smoky smooth glass paired with the textured cork. I wonder how the cork would hold up over time? Design for Good: Pepe Heykoop and the Tiny Miracles Foundation

What do you do if your cousin is on a mission to take a community of 700 people living on the streets in Mumbai India, and turn them from “very poor” to “middle class” in just eight years? If you’re Pepe Heykoop , you set about designing products that they can make and teaching them the skills required to make them, providing them with the income they need to escape abject poverty. It was an honor to meet him at IMM Cologne . He was showcasing two products; the Leather Lampshade and the Paper Vase cover – which uses simple folding techniques to provide a decorative cover for bottles which are thrown away all over India, turning them into something useful. Pepe’s cousin is Laurien Meuter, founder of The Tiny Miracles Foundation , an organization which believes they can make the world a better place, but that in order to do so, they need focus.
