Engineering Temporality is the Design Academy Eindhoven graduate project of Tuomas Markunpoika Tolvanen that pays tribute to our temporal nature as human beings. Inspired by his grandmother’s slow decline with Alzheimer’s, Heidegger set out to create objects that could mimic the fragility of our lives. The pieces are made from tubular steel formed into rings and then the “vanishing” is done by burning the pieces with fire

Recent furniture and product design graduate Edward Taylor studied the way in which people store their clothing and created The Show-off . The Show-off is a clothing storage unit that features an attached tree-like stand to hold garments and accessories that you might want to show off and a closed storage area for the less preferred items. The piece is made from oak, walnut, laminate and ply, and would provide great storage in the bedroom or by the front door. The Show-off was exhibited at Designersblock London in September 2011. The Springwood Collection is a set of modern seating arrangements created using a unique wood that springs as you sit.
The collection includes three stools, a three-seater bench and a side table. Shown above is Restless Legs, one of the stools. Another stool, the Original, has stationary legs.
The Bridge is the three-seater bench that has three springy wood seats and a powder coated frame. The springy wood seat is created using ash wood that has many intricate slits to assist in flexibility. Each seat has more than 480 slits created using CNC technology.
Shown above is the Clip, which is the third stool in the series. The legs of the Clip are folded like a paper clip using stainless steel.
The Springwood Collection is designed by Carolien Laro, a graduate student in Amsterdam.

Materials: Ikea ODDA night stand
Description: Being a recent college graduate without a job, sometimes you have to be creative. I had two Ikea night stands, which I turned into rack mounts for my audio gear. I popped off the four wheels. It just so happens that the width of the night stand is exactly the same width needed for a rack for audio equipment. All I had to do was drill holes on either side of the stand and then slip the racks right in. Hope you enjoy!

Christina Fesmire is a graduate student of Industrial Design at Pratt Institute, and with her Fugle Swing she asks “is adulthood joyful?” Having become intrigued with the impacts emerging from Scandinavia in the twentieth century, I wanted to bring this fascination closer to my image what an adult swing could become. The concavity, or central portion of the piece was decided after weeks of anatomical study on the human coccyx. The practicality of comfort and aestheticism were joined in determining the overall shape
