Mägi Bench & Log Lamp by Jari Nyman and Olli Mustikainen

A collaboration between Finnish designers, Jari Nyman and Olli Mustikainen , resulted in two noteworthy designs – the Mägi bench and the Log lamp. The Mägi combines seating and storage into a bench that mixes simplicity (bench seat) with irregularity (the base). The jagged base allows for open pockets of space to store essentials like magazines, books, or beer. For their Log lamp, the duo was inspired by a burning log with its glow emanating from a fireplace. Press the wood block down and it pops up to expose the light.

M-Bamboo Table & M-Bench by Jennifer Newman Studio

Jennifer Newman Studio is well-known for a modern take on indoor-outdoor furniture and for their latest they are delving into the sustainable world using bamboo surfaces. The M-Bamboo Table comes with your choice of tabletops – a dark chocolate (above) that works inside or outside, and a light caramel (below) that’s made for inside use. The powder-coated aluminum M-Bench comes in a trapezoidal shape that mimics the form of the table. The outdoor tables are available in 3 sizes to seat 2, 3 or 4 people on each side, while the inside table comes as a long version only and seats 5 people on each side. Even though I seriously love the orange, the tables and benches are available in a wide variety of colors to suit your taste.

Pretty Places That Have Nothing in Common

Today was one of those days where I just wanted to look at gorgeous spaces for some inspiration and something nice and enjoyable to look at. So I went to Pinterest, naturally.

And let me tell you, while I did find ENDLESS amounts of gorgeous living rooms, bedrooms and more, almost every picture I clicked either went to another page on Pinterest or to a Tumblr page with no direct link, just a full page of images – not the one I had clicked on! Needless to say, Pinterest frustrates the heck out of me sometimes with all of its inconsistencies. Does anyone else find that problem? It could just be the type of day I’m having – which is why I’ve included these pretty images above – even though they have nothing in common!

I’m in the mood for a white space with pale pinks and greys and fluffy pillows and fur. I’m not sure why, but that was what I was looking for. I’m constantly drawn to that and may need to recreate a girly grey room in my home – I’m almost there with my bedroom – I would just need to switch out some blues for pinks, if my fiancee allowed!

So anyway, now that I’ve rambled on. What do you think of these spaces? What catches your eye? I know that gold sequin wall sure catches mine!

Installations at the V&A, London Design Festival 2012

The V&A was bursting at the seams with installations for London Design Festival 2012. Here are three of the best – nendo’s Mimicry Chairs, Bench Years from Established & Sons and Ice Angel by Dominic Harris. nendo’s Mimicry chairs are ghost-like installations throughout the museum that reflect their surroundings. The top image shows a single chair hanging in the main entrance - a reference to the massive Dale Chihuly chandelier hanging in the next space. Elsewhere in the museum chairs “walk” down stairs or follow the lift traveling up and down between floors.

The tops are filled with handmade vessels by ceramist Sun Kim , all of which can be used to hold plants, things, or just as an empty decorative object.
