Skim Milk: Pipe by Luca Nichetto

Luca Nichetto , an Italian designer who studied Industrial Design at IUAV , is no stranger to some of the world’s most esteemed design-conscious manufacturers. Most notable are his sources of inspiration — whether it be a music video, or an armor design of a Japanese warrior — he is somehow able to formulate masterful interpretations from ostensibly quixotic visions of his imagination. One of his latest projects, a light fixture titled Pipe , was created in collaboration with the prestigious Established & Sons . The lamp, in all of its minimalist glory, is a multifunctional design with a distinctively peculiar form.

Nature/Data Exhibition at Industry Gallery

Cervo Chair This weekend, Industry Gallery will open Nature/Data , the first solo U.S. exhibition for New York-based Italian designer and architect Antonio Pio Saracino . The works in the exhibition are executed in plywood, metal, carbon fiber and synthetics and abstract from natural forms such as molecules, leaves, blossoms, and crystals. Nature/Data will feature eleven different chair designs, including two newly created for the exhibition: Riccio, a chair with a smooth interior and spiky exterior; and Molecular Bench, a baroque, steel-framed work covered with molecule-shaped recycled wool (both pictured below).

The Col-Letto Bed

Tuck yourself in the cozy Col-Letto Bed and then unroll yourself out in the morning. Normal sleepy-time terminology takes a different connotation with the Col-Letto Bed. The soft foam frame of the Col-Letto Bed folds up to tuck you in to a quiet and comfy sleep, or it unrolls and attaches to velcro to bring in open air, light and noise.

Designed by Nusa Jelenec for Italian furniture manufacturer Lago, the Col-Letto Bed is inspired by the collar of a turtleneck. The two-toned bed frame is available in a variety of colors to suit your bedroom decor. Matching nightstands that roll down or stay straight up are also available from Lago.

What do you think? Would you enjoy sleeping in the Col-Letto Bed?

Petalo Valet by Eugenia Minerva

Italian designer Eugenia Minerva has created Petalo , a modern valet for Czech manufacturer Ton . Surprisingly, this submission comes just a few days after I posted the very first modern valet here on Design Milk. Created with the wood bending technique, Petalo is a very functional coat hanger: whilst looking simple and smart, in fact, provides much more space than a classical silent servant. It reminds me of a Thonet chair . © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings , Style & Fashion | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook More Milk: Art Milk | Dog Milk

Re +

re-light3

At 6DW we are all about recycling and reusing, and Italian design studio King + offers a great example of the stunning design that can come out of it. It has created a series of pendant lamps that are made from recycled textile spools. These pendants are available in a variety of colors and have been appropriately named Re + .

In addition to their construction from recycled spools, these pendants also feature LED bulbs, which provide an 85% increase in energy savings over traditional light bulbs.

Cipria

What do you think of this? New from Italian furniture company Edra, the Cipria Settee is defiantly the focal point of any room.  Designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana , this sofa recently made its debut at Salone Di Mobile Milano.  It’s definitely different, but at the same time I’d kind of like to be sitting on it right now.
