Switch Plates Reinvented: Walhub by Upwell

San Francisco-based Upwell , led by designer Justin Porcano , launched its first product that aims to make your life just a little bit easier. The Walhub isn’t your average switch plate though, this one becomes a dedicated site for your essentials – keys, mail, or your umbrella – by having a spot right by your door. You generally turn your lights off when you leave so your eyes automatically go to the light switch anyway, making it the perfect location for your important items. It comes in two versions, the Hang (with two hooks) and the Keeper (with two hooks and a mail holder), and they’re also a variety of options depending on what type of light switches you have

New Wood Floors

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that we were redoing our floors, as I was searching for inspiration as to which finish we would choose. We just did our living room, because our precious little puppy had stained the floors with a few pee accidents. To avoid cutting and replacing the sections of the wood that was stained, our floor guy told us that if we chose a darker finish, it would be more cost efficient as it would just cover the stains right up.

So, that’s what we did! The first picture is a bad picture of the walls, as they are the same color as the walls in the second picture, but the floors really were that orangey. I never had a problem with the color, but now that they are that caramelly brown on the bottom – I am absolutely in love. They look even better in person – it is so hard to capture true colors on camera, as you probably know!

As the floor guy had told us, the stains were covered up and you can’t even see them! It only took about two days for the guys to be finished and it was well worth it.

What do you think of our new floors?

Colorful Curtains

Loving the idea of bright, flowing, colorful curtains to brighten up a room no matter what time of day, or what time of year.

While initially a bold and bright solid colored curtain appealed to me the most, the combination of a solid with pattern seems a little bit more casual yet still gives that oomph I’m looking for. Here is the good example of great curtains designer from Ukraine.

Plus, mixing three different curtains is the perfect solution for indecisive individuals like myself that can’t narrow anything down to just one!

Little Fellow

The Little Fellow is a low profile modern chair, upholstered in thick nordic rope.

As per the designer’s website, Little Fellow was created as “an exploration in unusual materials and innovative ways of upholstering.”

The intention of the Little Fellow was to create a chair that touched people in a personal way, as a little friend would.

Little Fellow is designed by Sofie Brunner of Brunner Studio and Ditte Maigaard for the 2010 Stockholm Furniture Fair.

bitplay

bitplay takes everyday objects and makes them fun and interactive. Their objects are functional and sleek, but they add just a little bit of magic — or “play” — to the everyday. BANG! Bang! Lights out! BANG! lets you do just that: shoot the lights out. You fire a gun-shaped remote at the lamp to turn it off. The light goes out and the lampshade knocks to the side, showing that it’s been hit

Tweet for Love Notes

This little birdie from Mo Man Tai takes Twitter back quite a few years, back to when people used to write love notes. I’m not saying that people don’t still write love letters, but there was a time when they were more of a big deal. In this time of “twittering” it’s a great gift to tell someone something in the “old-fashioned (romantic) way.” This cute little bird-shaped love note holder is laser-cut from different metal leftovers. Called “Tweet,” it is made from 3- to 5-mm stainless steel or aluminium, but you can’t choose because you’re gonna get whatever metal is left over at that time

Little Time by Rafael Morgan

This is such a simple but very neat idea from Rafael Morgan : a clock with hands that have magnifying lenses to make the little numbers bigger and easier to read for telling time. I hope a producer picks this concept up and manufactures it! via Core77 © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Catrina in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook More Milk: Art Milk | Dog Milk
