Balsabox Modern Jewelry Box by Nomess Copenhagen

I don’t have a jewelry box. It’s not because I don’t want or need one, but I’ve had a very hard time finding one. Right now, all my jewelry is sadly and messily dumped inside a drawer. I discovered Balsabox a few weeks ago and I am utterly in love

The High & Tight Stool by Curtis Micklish

High & Tight is a new stool from Curtis Micklish that was inspired by the teeth of a hair comb. Its cantilevered look is actually a well-designed and structurally sound seating design. Seven individual steel plates make up the floating seat, which are then folded back to create legs. Solid black walnut then meets these steel members to complete the piece.

Summit Nesting Tables by Moving Mountains

Summit Nesting Tables is a minimalist design created by Brooklyn-based design firm  Moving Mountains . As the company name suggests, Moving Mountains is an industrial design practice that wants to move beyond its boundaries to the convergence of design, art, and fashion. The studio prides itself on creating a diverse range of domestically-made products focused on a refined sense of simplicity and functionality. With that being said, all furniture pieces are made by hand, and crafted with solid wood. The nesting tables can be stacked to build a mountain, or nested to create plateaus

Open Book Chair by TILT

TILT , who brought you the collaborative furniture we recently posted about called Quiet and Call , has also released another chair as part of that collection called Open Book. While this isn’t the first bookshelf chair we’ve seen, this chair goes the extra mile in terms of function. In fact, it goes so far as to combine chair, bookshelf, lap desk, side table and magazine rack all in one, while at the same time giving you a little bit of privacy on one side. Whew. Zemayesh: Eli Chissik Furniture Art Exhibition

As of July 4th, Periscope Gallery in Tel Aviv is hosting Zemayesh , an exhibition by Eli Chissik of colorful, artistic furniture from scraps which he has called “wood-con-fusion.” Using raw materials and offcuts from carpenters, the artist creates rich, new hybrid furnishings that cross over from furniture to sculpture. Assembling random MDF plates, colored Formica, and solid wood, Chissik builds texture and paint and layers into graphic elements, which soon become functional objects. Through personal interpretation, Chissik revives iconic elements characteristics from different periods, and gives an abstract interpretation to the past under names such as “Dada”, “Bauhaus” and others. Meditative Spaces: Creating a Sacred Space in a Cluttered Home

Your outer environment reflects your inner state of being – while we may not be able to change the buildings, restaurants and roads throughout our towns and cities, we do have some say over the way we make our homes feel on the inside.

Waves of anxiety have washed over me when my apartment was awry with clothes all over the bedroom floor, dishes in the sink and knick knacks lying around. There is a sense of urgency to clean and to tidy up but with little time to do so, I would just give up and attempt to find solace somewhere outside the house.

Our busy days, whether it be long hours at the office or running around with the kids gives us only a short window of time for ourselves. We sometimes forget the importance of taking a few minutes from our hectic schedules to clear our minds and gain a little R & R in the meantime.

Creating our own sanctuary in our home where we can meditate, read or relax serves as a helpful reminder that taking time for ourselves should be a vital priority on our to-do list.

Here are some inspirational rooms to get you starting on creating your own “me-time” area in your home:

I love this idea especially if privacy is hard to come by in your home.  Drapery hanging from the ceiling can create a teepee like structure to enclose you. Then simply place some pillows at the base of it for comfort and a few candles around the perimeter for a perfect spot to meditate, write, read or reflect.

This modern nook also serves as an excellent hideaway for a slice of peace and serenity in your day.

It is always a nice touch to add a window to the outside world to your sacred space. It allows for the natural world to enter your space while protecting you from the elements. This space also incorporates an altar into its design.

An altar doesn’t have to be associated with any sort of religion or spiritual belief system. It can be a simple place for personal expression of what you want to focus on and where you can rest meaningful objects.

If you have room in your backyard, you can also add an outdoor-indoor haven.

Signs by Jérémy Murier & Daniel Martinez

Signs is a series of geometric mirrors, designed by Jérémy Murier & Daniel Martinez, made out of only two elements. The cylindrical ceramic bases are concave in the center which gives the mirror the illusion of floating above it by extending the angle of the mirror. The mirrors themselves are made out of polished mirror sheets of copper.
