Kitchens with Barstools

Do you have barstools in your kitchen? I do, but they’re nothing fabulous. I was more worried about the kitchen table and chairs and beds and sofas that I really didn’t give much thought to the barstools, as long as we had a pair.

Browsing through images on Houzz and Pinterest, my two faves, I always see kitchens with fabulous barstools that tie the whole look of the kitchen together. How about those lucite barstools in the second image above? Bold and dramatic. The Bertoia wire stools are chic and modern and the tan stools are simple and traditional, with high backs and X bases that add detail to the space.

Now I’m having total barstool envy, and I’m wishing I would have chosen bold barstools in a vibrant color or textured fabric rather than the plain old wood ones I got on sale. Instead of having barstool envy, I could always add funky pillows to the ones I’ve got or repaint or refinish them for a fun weekend project. Right?

What are your take on barstools in the kitchen? Should they be bold and fabulous or simple and stylish?

Black Interior Doors

Black interior doors. Such an interesting concept. I’ve never actually seen or thought about black interior doors until I saw them on Pinterest a few days ago.

Against glossy white molding, I love the way the black pops. One home I saw painted the doors facing the hallway black and kept the interior (facing the bedrooms and bathrooms) white, which adds a contrast and element of surprise.

Is there any other color you can imagine painting your interior doors? Other than white or ivory, of course! I’m not sure I can…maybe a dark glossy navy but I would still probably prefer black. How about you?

Quilted

What do you think of when you think of quilted? For me, my first thought is NOT anywhere near the quilted goodness you see above. But that’s ok – there’s nothing wrong with that, right? I think it’s exciting to see a contemporary spin on certain styles, which seems to be happening with quilted styles.

Looking at these images above, the quilted look also reminds me of the iconic Chanel designs, which are classic, timeless and elegant. I wouldn’t mind a style such as that in my bedroom or living room, that’s for sure.

While typically I’ve leaned towards a classic tufted look, the quilted look is something I wouldn’t mind seeing more of. Elle Decor lists quilted as one of its upcoming trends, and that’s fine with me!

How about you – what do you think of quilted patterns in home decor?
