California-based SylvanSF manufactures short run, limited edition furnishings created from unique materials that might not be for everyone. Furniture designer and artist Sylvan Fiss moved from Genoa, Italy to Los Angeles at a young age, and has received numerous awards. His influence is primarily the polyvalent goods of the colonial trade. There is such drama and opulence in his pieces, they really do remind me of Boca Do Lobo , except more traditional with an ethnic twist

These suitcases actually transform into a 2-seater sofa. Designed by Erik de Nijs, it was inspired from his travels, homesickness, and the need for comfort while away from home. You can see it on display now at Utrecht Verplettert in The Netherlands through October 25th. http://www.utrechtverplettert.nl/erik.html

Domesticity has created two new shelves: the Ledge shelf and the Overhang Shelf with Hooks. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in ooh-ing and aah-ing at over-the-top design that I overlook truly good, clean modern and functional design such as these two simple pieces.

Industrial designer David Fox collaborated with Boss Design to create a lounge chair that could’ve earned an A in ultra-advanced woodshop and advanced sewing class (the highest level, the one that all honors-y students would want to get into). Not only can you sit pretty in it, but the chair itself sits pretty by itself.

Austrian designer Thomas Feichtner has created a new line of tableware called Reset. The side walls of all of the pieces taper toward the bottom edge, creating an almost unstable appearance. Although the bottom is smaller than the top, the structure is not less stable than that of conventional tableware of the same height.
