Three New Products from DesignCode

DesignCode is officially launching three new products at Maison&Objet in September. Chibi Chibi, a word used in Japanese to call with affection to something small. This new product is destined to become DesignCode icon, along with Joyns or Flamp lamp. Simplicity and ingenuity become a new way of representing the iconic forms of a lamp. Chibi is made of 100% recyclable iron and comes assembled.

Mafi USA Tiger Oak

Mafi is a company based in Upper Austria that recently made its LA debut with its quality natural and engineered wood products that have a touch of art and individuality. To make their unique Tiger Oak wood, Mafi uses an exclusive baking process to create natural cracks that can be filled. This doesn’t harm the wood, but creates natural grooves in which colors or translucent epoxy can be injected

Friday Five with Rich and Brett of ModProducts

ModProducts is a New York City based product design company founded by designers, Brett Teper and Rich Williams. Their first product, The ModKat Litter Box was unveiled at the ICFF in 2009 where it proudly took home the Editors award for best accessory. More recently ModKat picked up a Red Dot Design Award honor. ModProducts was born out of a curious need to rethink everyday products and make them a bit more useful and aesthetically pleasing

Friday Five with Rebecca Lonergan of modwalls

Rebecca Lonergan spent many years in high tech staffing in the Silicon Valley, including stints as the head of the staffing departments for both eBay and Google. She had always worked creatively making jewelry and mosaic tile art as hobbies. In 2003, she and her husband David decided to live more creatively on a full-time basis. They started modwalls® as a result of their own difficulty in finding modern and colorful tile for their home projects. Both had backgrounds in high tech, so they knew that they could bring a traditionally brick and mortar retail experience online.

Paimio by Alvar Alto

This modern lounge chair by Alvar Alto for Artek was originally designed for tuberculosis patients to sit in for long hours every day. The chair’s back is angled so that the patient can breathe most easily.
