Milan 2013: Spazio Rossana Orlandi
April 19th, 2013 — Design
If Ventura Lambrate was my favorite space at Milan Design Week last year (and again this year!), my favorite new discovery was definitely Spazio Rossana Orlandi – especially as I even spotted the lady herself. The space has a buzzy cafe culture ambience and there’s a sense that something different is always happening here. A little exploration led me to the Bala Side Tables by Jaime Hayon – I love the luxurious copper and marble set against the pitted unfinished wall behind. Scholten and Baijings’ collaboration with Hay seems to me like a match made in neon geometric heaven, and this display of their work did nothing to convince me otherwise

Stalasso Lighting by Joeri Claeys
April 18th, 2013 — Design
The Stalasso pendant lights, designed by Belgian designer Joeri Claeys , resemble hanging drops. Inspired by dripping stalactite, those icicle-shaped minerals that hang from caves, the pendants can be hung alone or with multiples on one string. The concept was designed with two versions in mind: a gloss/transparent one and a matte one.

Lady Caves
April 16th, 2013 — Designer Stuff
The other day on the radio, they were talking about creating a lady cave. I’ve heard of man caves, but somehow I’ve never heard the term lady cave until last week! Have you heard of it before?
It only makes sense, because if the man gets one, the lady should too. The real question is, what would you have in your dream lady cave? For me, I’d have a big vanity with tons of fabulous makeup and hair products and accessories with a fancy mirror and fabulous chair for getting ready. Then I would probably have a hot pink tufted sofa with some fur and lucite accessories scattered around and a beautiful flat screen hanging on a patterned wallpaper wall.
That’s my dream lady cave. Now I just have to find a room for it all. What would be in yours?

QUAD Trivet by Dewa Bleisinger
April 15th, 2013 — Design
Berlin-based product designer Dewa Bleisinger ‘s QUAD Trivet adjusts to a handful of sizes and patterns to accommodate any size pot you place on it. It unfolds from a simple square to a large circle, making it the only trivet you’ll ever need. It’s made from 16 wooden cubes that are connected with a silicone strip that’s hidden on the underside of the cubes. Besides being flexible, the silicone is also heat-resistant making it a safe place for your hot food. The chunky cubes are substantial and form a variety of geometric designs to not only do its job but to also look good on the table

Fishbone Table Collection by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso
April 14th, 2013 — Design
Moroso has collaborated with designer Patricia Urquiola on a new collection of tables called Fishbone. Designed to accompany her M.a.s.s.a.s seating collection, also by Moroso, the tables are a playful herringbone design. The malleable palette of the cast acrylic composition has given Urquiola the freedom to create patterns that imitate natural materials such as horn, mother-of-pearl, marble and tortoise shell

kerFchair by Boris Goldberg
April 13th, 2013 — Design
The kerFchair is a flat pack furniture designed by Boris Goldberg made from CNC-machined birch wood. Instead of bending laminated wood, he applied a different technique to achieve the same effect. By using the kerfing technique, he avoided the laborious process of pressing the sheets of wood on a bending mold and clamping the together. Instead, the structure of the chair (the legs) are used as a bending tool. You can contact Boris at goldberg.boris@gmail.com
