Campana Brothers: Concepts Exhibition

Brazilian design brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana, otherwise known as the Campana Brothers , have taken over New York City gallery Friedman Benda in their first ever solo gallery show in the United States with an exhibition called Campana Brothers: Concepts . The brothers’ work often touches on things like sustainability, globalization, and an exploration of materials, but this new body of work pushes their aesthetic and principles even further with the use of exotic materials and wanting to employ certain disappearing traditions. But don’t worry, the collection still has that bit of playfulness one would expect from this dynamic duo. The alligator sofa and chair are created out of life-like stuffed alligators that are made by an NGO that employs imprisoned women. The Racket collection is a series of brass-framed chairs and a screen made with a nylon stitched base and remnants of old woven Thonet chairs.

ALIGN: A Limited Edition Rug by Joe Doucet & Odabashian

New York-based artist and designer, Joe Doucet , collaborated with Odabashian , one of the oldest handmade rug companies in the Americas, to create the limited edition ALIGN . The Tibetan-knotted rug was created just for the recently held WantedDesign 2013 and was on display there. Most knotted rugs of this caliber are made around 2mm x 2mm grids and Doucet used this to work off of when he came up with his geometric design. The rug is woven in India and the design measures 5′ x 8′ and contains over one million,  Tibetan single knots.

Copper & Rope: CR Mirrors by Miles Dexter

UK-based designer Miles Dexter explores combining two different materials into one cohesive design in his CR Mirrors . Rope creates the outer edge of each mirror with a clamp made out of copper to secure it. The use of these two materials brings a bit of an industrial feel to a design that would otherwise lean towards nautical. The soft flax rope is banded together to form a loop for hanging

Talma Lounge Chair by Benjamin Hubert for Moroso

A recent collaboration between London-based designer Benjamin Hubert and Italian brand Moroso brought about a new compact lounge chair called Talma . Appropriately named Talma (a type of cloak), the chair looks as if it has been wrapped in a padded textile, similar to how a cloak would wrap a body. Hidden under the wrap is a lightweight metal frame that follows the studio’s MO which was to reduce material, weight, and cost during the traditional construction of upholstered chairs

Handmade Felt Rugs from Peace Industry

When I think of wool felt rugs, for some reason I picture boring, flat solid-color rugs made of a simple sheet of felt, but San Francisco-based company Peace Industry has totally changed my perception. They have created a line of gorgeous rugs made of 100% lambs wool and woven using traditional methods by Turkish artisans, but with contemporary patterns.

Inspired by Myth: Vilu Light Collection by gt2P

Chilean architecture and design studio gt2P (Great Things to People) has launched a new collection of lighting called Vilu , which happens to be their first collaboration with DHPH . Made using a combination of digital fabrication and traditional techniques, like assembling the pieces by hand, the organic forms let light peek out through the delicate perforations that are in place to bend the metal. Watch the video: The curved edges of the light help guide light down to define a space. The lighted area encapsulates whomever is underneath it to become “embedded in the inner spatiality.” The collection is inspired by an old Chilean myth about the archipelago of Chiloé, where two forces battled and one raised the level of the water while the other raised the level of the land. They continued the fight until they were both satisfied with the shape of the archipelago
