Ever wonder what happens to shopping carts when they get old? Neither did I, but I have to say that what I discovered is in fact pretty interesting. This project, titled Mercado Negro, is the work of Ramon Coronado. Upon moving to LA, he noticed a lot of things about the area in which he lived, one of them being the shortage of parks and recreational areas. What he did notice a lot of were shopping carts, seemingly abandoned everywhere and drawing attention to the area’s poverty. Coronado took it upon himself to make a statement with shopping carts, and used abandoned carts to create furniture that kids would enjoy. His intention was to bring attention to and criticize the scarcity of recreational areas for kids in dense cities.
What do you think? Are his intentions communicated in this unique furniture design? See more here.
