Stefan Hepner created Exedra not just as a wall shelf, but also as a wall shrine for all of your important “objects, books and personal relics.” The New York based designer was inspired by those little alcoves that you often find in architecture that hold a statue or something else of high regard. The perimeter of the shelf resembles crumbled paper with a unique texture that makes it look like it was built coming out of the wall. Made from reinforced white resin, the shelf is lightweight while still remaining sturdy enough to hold your stuff. Materials: Malm Bed Base Description: This hack begins with a king-size Malm bed base that we no longer had any use for. Rather than get rid of it I had an idea that the headboard and base were nice-enough looking pieces of wood to be reused and, given that our TV was sitting on a small, worn out stand, I thought I’d have a go at making a TV unit/sideboard/thing.

Materials: BILLY height extension unit, BILLY wall shelf, veneer strips, stain Description: I needed horizontal wall cabinets that would run the length of the wall and give me all the space I wanted without compromising on style. So I took a few store-bought IKEA items and turned them into a one-of-a-kind fully customized shelf unit.

A few months ago, I made a series of DIY wall art for the wall above the sofa in our living room. As soon as we put them up, I started kicking myself for not putting in a floating shelf and balancing the pieces against them.
After these images, I’m kicking myself even harder! The first one is my favorite, with the grey walls and all the different size frames and colors. However, I do love the black and white theme and staggered shelves in the second. And the combination of frames with the initials and boxes in the third.
Maybe I’ll grab a shelf at IKEA and replicate this look over the next week or so. Have any of you done something like this in your home lately? I’d love to hear!

Materials: STOLMEN post + mounting fixtures, sisal rope, small shelf, HESSUM doormat Description: Because cat furniture is the ugliest around and my friend needed every inch of her small apartment, I came up with this minimalistic climbing post . The shelf was on the wall already. The parts I needed cost about 60 euros. Steps: 1) I had to buy the 40 meters of rope in four 10 meter pieces.

Materials: Lack wall shelf Description: We wanted to put up something that our cats could use to climb on and that didn’t take up any valuable horizontal real estate. Saw a pet store in our neighborhood using shelves as climbing walls for cats and looked online only to find that this is not so uncommon a practice and discovered this fab site along the way. Here is our version of a cat hack using Lack
