German design studio Supergrau , which has three designers at the helm, has launched a series of lighting designs that continue their tradition of sustainability and their desire for people “to love, to buy, to preserve” good design. All of their retro/futuristic designs are handcrafted in Germany and the collection is now being carried by design showroom Mondo Collection . Handcrafted from locally-sourced beech wood, Leis aims to revive a Slovenian woodcraft tradition called “suha roba.” A lovely minimalist design combining contemporary lines and long-established hand-crafted skills, the Leis set consists of a fork, spoon and spatula. Gigodesign , who designed the products and packaging, worked with a manufacturing company called Rimarket, and are planning a future series of nature-friendly Christmas ornaments and office accessories. I’m pretty excited to see more from this team! Photos courtesy of Gigodesign. MACMAMAU is a relatively new brand of furniture that creates high quality pieces deeply rooted in Italian tradition with top-notch craftsmanship and strong design. Along with using traditional cabinetmaking techniques, they also add their own stamp with mechanical engraving, hand painting, and lacquering of the pieces. The entire line carries a striking graphic quality on the surfaces but there’s a beautiful simplicity to the overall forms

A few weeks ago I visited a home that the most beautiful brick wine cellar and it made me think about how tradition most wine cellars are. So, I put myself on a mission for some modern wine cellars, and here’s what I found.
While I do love a nice brick and dark wood, the glass, bright colors and different shapes shown in these modern wine cellars are crisp and cool. It would be lovely to have a space like one of these in my own home one day.
Do you have a wine cellar? Is it more of a traditional cellar or does it have modern elements?

Materials: Ikea SNÖVITA wreath, felt, scissors, glue
Description: I personalized the SNÖVITA wreath using stash of felt I had at home.
I made one with Saint Nicolausand another one with the 3 magic kings (a spanish tradition, on the 6th of January they come to every house and leave gifts and stuff).
It was a nice easy way to get a different Christmas wreath for less than 30$!
See more of the Christmas wreaths.

We don’t do gift guides here on Design Milk because everyone does them. We like to be different. Last year, we did staff wishlists and once again we thought it would be fun to continue this new tradition and ask each current contributor what was on their wishlist this holiday season — realistic or pipe dream. So, for next 2 weeks we’ll be featuring staff wishlists.
