The Paintchip Bookshelf is a storage unit that is inspired by the paint chip samples. Each unit is modular, so it comes apart and easily stacks

Northern Michigan University School of Art and Design will be exhibiting for the first time in Milan at Salone . Their show, called Transiessence , will feature works from 18 student designers. From the show’s description: The dictionary defines the word transient as not lasting, enduring, or permanent. Essence is defined as the basic, real, and invariable nature of a thing or its significant individual feature or features.

Metal Spinning is a graduation project from James Shaw , who is studying design at Kingston University, which recently won an award at New Designers 2010 in London. From the designer: This project is an exploration of the process of metal spinning. Metal spinning is a now often overlooked process whereby a disc of metal is pushed onto a former while both are being turned at high speeds on a lathe producing axismetrical forms.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kirsty Whyte studied Decorative Arts at Nottingham Trent University, and after graduating with first class honors in 2003, she was then invited for a semester as a guest student at Kalmar University Sweden to study glass design. After moving to London, she worked for well-known retailer Habitat, and founded Purewhyte in autumn 2008. Having also finished an internship at Tom Dixon’s Design Studio, her studio is now based in the creative hub of East London. Purewhyte has continued to develop a strong collection, most recently launching three new products during the Milan Furniture Fair at Salone Satellite.

Alice Walton will soon be graduating from Brighton University in England, this year with a BA in Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics. Andrew Wagner is the editor-in-chief of ReadyMade magazine . Prior to coming to ReadyMade he was the editor-in-chief of American Craft magazine. Wagner was also the executive editor and founding managing editor of Dwell , where he helped push the boundaries of architecture and design journalism, garnering the publication the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) General Excellence Award in 2005
