Communal living has hit the bird world with the recently designed NeighBirds birds’ nests by Andreu Carulla Studio for Utoopic . The modular, hexagon-shaped design allows for multiple units to be connected together to help form a community in hopes of helping the baby birds leave the nest. See, they can get their own crib right near their parents, you know, if they don’t mind being so close.

Partnerships happen everyday in the design world and when it’s between a brilliant housewares company and one innovative designer, you have yourself a match made in design heaven. This happens to be the case when the New York-based Icelandic designer Hlynur Atlason recently teamed up with Umbra to create two new kitchen designs – Bento and Tricon . Bento is more than just a cutting board – It’s a cutting board plus measuring cup/storage system. The board acts as a lid to the set of five measuring cups that settle in underneath. Perfect for prepping early and cooking later

If Transformers took over the furniture world I’m pretty sure this is what it would look like. The Boxetti Collection of furniture, designed by Rolands Landsbergs , is an innovative approach to maximizing efficiency in furniture. The line is perfect for small dwellers in that you get multiple bangs for your buck in each high-tech module. The Boxetti Lounge is not just a white coffin-shaped box – it’s a chair or a three-seater sofa that has removable pieces that become instant coffee tables.
